Republican lawmakers have launched an effort to withdraw the U.S. from the United Nations, amid concern that the international humanitarian and human rights organization fails to promote American interests and align with President Donald Trump’s "America First" agenda.

Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, introduced legislation Thursday called the Disengaging Entirely From the United Nations Debacle Act of 2025, which would terminate U.S. membership in the U.N. and its affiliated bodies, and funding to those groups. Sen. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., is co-sponsoring the measure in the upper chamber.

Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, is poised to introduce the measure in the House Friday, claiming that the U.N. and its bodies don’t advance the interests of Americans.

"The United Nations has devolved into a platform for tyrants and a venue to attack America and her allies," Lee said in a Thursday statement to Fox News Digital. "We should stop paying for it. As President Trump revolutionizes our foreign policy by putting America first, we should withdraw from this sham organization and prioritize real alliances that keep our country safe and prosperous."

The U.S. provides more funding than any other country to the U.N., donating more than $18 billion in 2022, according to the U.S. foreign policy think tank the Council on Foreign Relations. That makes up roughly a third of the U.N.’s entire collective budget.

"The United Nations has enjoyed American tax money while often undermining our interests, attacking our allies and bolstering our adversaries," Roy said in a Thursday statement to Fox News Digital.

"What has the United Nations achieved?" Roy said. "Despite all of the money and the attention, this corrupt globalist organization has, for decades, failed to prevent wars, genocides, human rights violations and even pandemics."

I think this has been part of the plan all along and could easily transfer over to NATO.....Two birds with one stone if you will.

If Trump or SecDef came out and said, 'we want out of the UN' everyone would balk at us bailing on them, and how short sighted we are and how we are really Russia's ally, etc.

Instead, allow the Euro weenies with their angst and short memories do it for us.

We keep demanding they pay into defense while at the same time refusing to do their shit for them.

In the process they get offended and from their moral high ground of faux superiority, they basically start doing some real dumb shit, threaten to remove us, or tell us to leave.

Well, those terms are acceptable. ;)

I would like another nation to host.

Why is the UN in New York?

American hubris. We are not special. Let another nation host.

Disgusting to be so conceited that you think another country cannot host the UN and all the nations cannot pay for it.

We are poor. $36 trillion in debt, We need to cut expenses,

The United Nations (UN) headquarters is located in the Turtle Bay neighborhood of Midtown Manhattan in New York City1. The headquarters was donated by John D. Rockefeller Jr. in December 19462. The UN Secretariat Building, which houses the UN's executive organ, is also located in this area3.

WTF is the matter with Republicans

Their “America First” means US vs the world

What Democrats don’t seem to understand is that European countries are putting their countries first, but expect the US to pick up the slack from the money they spend on non-necessities/frills. Trump is saying that the US has problems we need to address back at home. Subsidizing those children as they continue to spend their lunch money on sodas and expecting us to buy their lunch so they don’t go hungry is a no go. If Democrats weren’t children themselves, they would understand.

Personally, I would tell them they either pay up or we are out. It would be detrimental to the US in the long rung, but it would be devastating for European countries in the short and long term, which is exactly why they would grow up and start paying. It is past time to expect the kids in the basement to start paying their own way.
