To be fair, I wouldn't consider most of them "useful idiots". That would imply that they are unknowingly spreading Russian propaganda.

I dare say many, if not most, are knowingly spreading Russian propaganda.

And I wouldn't be surprised if there is some money laundering operation to pay at least some of the ones that are not actually in Russia. Not that they are all paid.
