Not long ago the Green Bay Packers were one of the top teams in the NFL. This year, they, together with the 2020 Super Bowl winning Tampa Bay Buccaneers, have a mediocre record of just 7 & 8. The 2021 Super Bowl champion Rams are just 5 & 10.

This goes to show how devastating it can be when some star players retire, go to other teams, or are sidelined with injuries, and are replaced by lesser effective players. In the case of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, most people would say that Tom Brady is the GOAT at the Quarterback position. Many would also say that Mike Evans is the GOAT receiver, having received for over 1,000 yards in all of his first 8 seasons, a feat that in all NFL history, ONLY Evans has accomplished.

Yet, despite this incredibly rare combination, The Bucs are struggling right now to win their division, even in the NFL's weakest division. This is the result of having a severely depleted offensive line, and how important the pass protection of the offensive line is. In recent years, the Bucs had 3 All-Pro offensive linemen. All 3 of those have been out of the lineup this year, and replaced by substitutes.

Pass time for Tom Brady has been reduced to an average of 2.1 seconds. It's a wonder any passes are being completed at all, with that little amount of time to look downfield, spot an open receiver, and pass.

So while we talk a lot about quarterbacks and receivers, it is the offensive linemen who are just as important in establishing and maintaining a good & consistent offense.

Bingo.

I played ball in high school at both the right guard and center positions. Those are the key positions with any football team. If your center gives, you're doomed.

No one is saying or ever said Evans is the GOAT WR. NO ONE.

Jerry Rice
TO
Randy Moss
Marvin Harrison
Larry Fitz
Michael Irvin
John Stallworth
Calvin Johnson
Antonio Brown
D Hop

He's not even top 10. Probably not even top 20.

Tyreek Hill
Justin Jefferson
Cooper Cupp
Travis Kelce
Davanta Adams
Stefan Diggs

All current WR's who are better than Evans.

NONE of whom ever received for 1,000 yards in all of their first 9 seasons. Evans is the ONLY receiver in NFL history to have done that. The GOAT.

Just side note - no current NFL receiver yesterday received 207 yards, and caught 3 TD passes (2 of them for over 50 yards) - only Mike Evans did that.

Cool story, doesn't make him the GOAT. Evans is an elite WR, but he's never been the top WR in the league for even a single year. He's rarely in the top 10. If youre not even the best while you played how on earth could you be considered the best to ever do it?

Hill
Adams
Jefferson
Cupp
Brown
Diggs

All better than Mike Evans. And this should be the best part of Evans career.

By having received over 1,000 yards in ALL of his first 9 years in the NFL, that's how. The ONLY receiver in NFL history to have ever done that. > GOAT.

BTW - could the Bucs be back to their Feb 2021 Super Bowl winning form ? In the Carolina game, with almost 500 yards of offense, rather weak defense against the pass, but tough against the run, and top players returning to the lineup for the playoffs to bolster the Bucs running game,.....hmmm.

So which year was he the best WR in the league. Name one. getting 1000 yds as a 1 in this NFL isn’t that impressive. The top 20+ wrs get to that mark every year. Jamaar Chase is 40 yds short of 1000 in just 11 games.
