NFL Draft positional analysis

Anyone who has watched both Sam and Spencer and cannot figure out Spencer is clearly a vastly better QB has zero understanding of football.

Rattler has won "How Many Games" as the starting QB in the NFL, in his entire career?

EMH
Buckle up buddy, this is going to be ROUGH for you.

Reminder was......Rattler has won "How Many Games" as the starting QB in the NFL, in his entire career?

The answer is...........1
Rattler is 1-13 as a Starting QB in the NFL.

Spencer Rattler has had a very rough start to his NFL career so far.

Career starts and wins

  • Starts: 14
  • Wins: 1
  • Losses: 13

Breakdown

  • 2024 (rookie season): 6 starts, 0 wins
  • 2025 season: 8 starts, 1 win (Saints went 2–7 in his starts depending on counting method, but only 1 credited QB win)
His only win as a starter came in Week 5 of the 2025 season against the Giants.

Bottom line

  • Total starts: 14
  • Wins in those starts: 1
Embarrassing huh.
Do you really want to continue this Rattler Love Fest?

The first telling sign = the team doesn't matter, only the QB wins games...

LOL!!!

Sam Darnold was AWFUL in the Super Bowl, and the only reason SEA won was because Drake Maye was even worse.

This is the Draft topic. There is another topic about Rattler.

winco, you can add to that topic by naming the only QB in NFL history who "lost" more games before "winning" one than Rattler...

Who was that QB?

Devon Marshall of NC State, a really good CB prospect who was a Combine snub, reportedly ran a 4.45 40 at his Pro Day. If so, and there are no "issues" that we don't know, easily grades Friday in this Draft...

Just how deep is the WR class?

The star of the Navy football team, Eli Heidenreich, with near records in 20 yard shuttle and 3 cone (ability to separate) is barely expected to be drafted.

Kris Hutson is expected to go undrafted. He was Arizona's best WR, you "noticed him" watching their games. I didn't see him on the combine list so I assumed he was not in the draft. He is. Kid is a player, A+ ability to separate and ball skills.

Fearless - grew up in Compton....

Apparently, but there are reports it was over 4.6 = slow... ouch, kid has really good tape...

Just ignore these numbers, put the kid on the field and watch, he gets open, catches the ball....

but, yeah, with his pro day numbers, he's going UND...

The Draft's WR class is "flat."

It is hard to get too excited at those projected to go round 1. Some of the mid round names

Skyler Bell UCONN
De'Zhaun Stribling Ole Miss
Ted Hurst GaState
Bryce Lance NDST
Jeff Caldwell Cincinnati
Josh Cameron Baylor
Eli Heidenreich Navy

are better prospects than those listed in Round 1.

Deep and flat, not steep at the top, the 2026 WR class

The first telling sign = the team doesn't matter, only the QB wins games...

Sam Darnold was AWFUL in the Super Bowl, and the only reason SEA won was because Drake Maye was even worse.
The two-point play that did not work against the Rams that somehow counted at the end of the season gave the Seahawks number one seed and made the Rams a wild card. Teams move on and fortunes are made.

TIGHT END position in the Draft.

There are two spectacularly talented receiving TEs at the top, Sadiq of Oregon and Stowers (of Vandy, YEAH!!).

But a TE is also supposed to be good at blocking, and to be honest, neither of those two really qualifies there. They are really "big WRs."

This Draft has one prospect who is "high end" at both blocking and receiving, only one I've found. He plays for a team that was in a Power 4 conference final. He was NOT invited to the combine... WTF???

Carsen Ryan TE BYU

I watched BYU many times, and he always stood out. Good blocker. Fast, shifty, excellent ball skills, hands, has YAC ability too.

Currently ranked consensus around 500 (deep undrafted) Carsen Ryan grades out as a mid round pick and will be a steal for someone on Saturday....

In a draft historically weak at the CB position, there is one "deep undrafted" who has really good tape and excellent measurables, except he is short. But he is tough and feisty and tackles well. Glue in coverage, plus ball skills...

from the PacManU

Michael Coats JR

his bad time in the 20 yard shuttle doesn't show on tape at all, I suspect he had a slight slip doing it. His 3 cone is much more what you see on tape.

I like Coats and Caleb Offord of Kennesaw state. Yeah, McCoy was great in 24 and had a good pro day, but didn't turn, and it is an ACL. The only CB with better coverage on tape last year than Coats JR was Delane of LSU. Not sold on any of the "rated to be drafted guys" behind McCoy and Delane.

Safety has a better class than CB. One safety "deep value" is getting noticed, the Pack had him for a "30 visit"

Jacob Thomas of James Madison

Difficult tape because he did everything except play DT for the Dukes. Has the tools to be great. Tape doesn't refute that, although "edge rusher," which he did regularly at JMU, isn't his NFL future.

Could lose 10 pounds and project as a shutdown CB, not lying...

Well, one thing is for certain. This week, somebody is going to do something REALLY STUPID.

That's the NFL Draft, it happens every year.

There are reportedly 5 teams trying to trade down from the top 10. Problem = they need someone willing to trade up, and other than dumb Dallas I don't see it.

Who will take Ty Simpson and where? No clue. Jest is doing everything possible to suggest they are waiting for a better QB class next Draft. AZ QB Brissett is arrogant about his job...

Will Rattler be traded this week?

No clue. Anyone who thinks Simpson is better QB than Rattler probably cheered when the Bears took Trubisky over Mahomes.

WR chaos - who is really the best WR prospect in the Draft, and are the "top 10" inferior to the "10-20" rankings?

My answer is Bryce Lance of NDST, this Draft's #1 WR prospect.

Is there a good OT in this Draft? NO

JC Davis of Illinois has the best tape and he's been falling, likely something is "wrong" "they know" and we don't, like a failed combine drug test or something like that. The rest are hardly comparable to what I would define as a First Round OT prospect, even Second Round. Mauigoa isn't that good, neither is Fano. Freeling could be the best but he gained like 100+ pounds since being a HS basketball player.... any idea how?

Is Arvell Reese that good? I watched a lot of Ohio State and don't remember much of him doing a lot of impressive stuff. Caleb Downs did. But Caleb was flagged at the combine for a knee.

What does the Draft have?

WRs, a lot of good ones, perhaps the "Deepest" class ever
EDGE
DL
LB
S

What does it not have?

QB depth - I still think Pavia is better than Simpson, but he's going down late on boards, suggesting he didn't interview well about answering "how will you handle being a backup QB?"
OT - disaster
C - yuk
CB -yuk

I think the Raiders Draft should be 1 ( QB) 2 ( DT ) 3 ( WR ) 4 ( CB ) 4 ( Edge ) 4 ( OT ) 5 ( CB ) 6 ( OG ) 6 ( LB ) 7 ( RB )

They have a position list of needs. Draft is something you "don't force." If you say I will pick position X you end up doing what TN did, taking Jake Locker at 9 and passing on JJ Watt who went 11.... with just about everyone certain you could've had Jake Locker in Round 2, possibly 3.

Some say raiders should use 3rd on a CB

Awesome timing by one of the "inmates" at the Georgia Correctional Facility in Athens....

^^^^^^^^^

the first real ACT OF STUPIDITY of Draft Week....

What about prospects not invited to the Combine? Do they ever get Drafted? Who are the best ones this year?

The Combine is usually about 320 players and the Draft is about 260, so there are usually, by definition, around 60 players at the Combine each year who won't/can't be Drafted = Math.

Then there are those who did not go to Combine who do get Drafted. Where? Mostly rounds 6-7, but can go as high as 4, that seems to be the data. It averages 50 or so....

Who were some of the best prospects not invited to Combine?

EMH non Combine heroes list

Lousiville EDGE Wesley Bailey

Had no clue who he was until his Pro Day. Watched a bunch of tape. Kid is a player, strong, long, fast, athletic. LOU had him inside at DT on some pass rush formations, dropping into covering on others, truly a "modern Defensive chess piece." Someone had a link that Wesley, the "other Bailey edge" in this Draft (the Texas Tech kid is going top 5), had a really high pass rush win rate, so he is "found" and he almost certainly will be Drafted. Freak Athlete, still has upside... plus long arms and big hands with power

easily could justify a 4th rounder

JMU "db" Jacob Thomas

There are two "Jakobe Thomas" in the Draft, the latter is how the kid from da U spells his name, and they are both safeties. The kid from James Madison is about the most impressive db prospect in the Draft. They had him everywhere but ILB and DT, he did some edge rushes. His future is at safety, and he has the raw skills to get a look at corner. His tape was very good in just about every aspect, can play man coverage.

easily could justify a 4th rounder, especially in this class which is OK at S, weak at CB.

Michael Heldman EDGE Central Michigan

He was dominant in Shrine Bowl. Dominanat at CMU in the MAC this year. Then he tested. They knew his arms were a bit short. I don't think the NFL watched his tape to appreciate just what a freak athlete Heldman is, and it shows up on tape, and showed up at the Shrine Bowl if you watched the game...

4-5th round is justifiable...
