New York Times: FEMA Let Texans Drown While Calls Went Unanswered

What an unadulterated load of crap. No wonder the NYT has to be for subscribers now and is trusted by nobody who can still think.

I read one once while at Barnes and Nobles and waiting on my wife to get done browsing. It is literally like reading a SNL skit making fun of leftists, even in their news articles. It's all the more hilarious because it's obvious they take themselves and their trash tabloid seriously.

It is you who are confused.....beyond that most phones you can shut off emergency alerts.

Federal Emergency Management Agency records obtained by NBC 5 Investigates show that Kerr County officials in Texas did not use FEMA’s Integrated Public Alert & Warning System to send warnings with safety instructions to all mobile phones in the affected area during critical hours, as the flooding began on July 4.

Researchers who have studied the cellphone warning system told NBC 5 Investigates that policies on how and when to issue critical alerts vary widely from one county to another, potentially risking delays when

This is supporting my point, simp. They didn't activate the IPAWS system....and they have provided no explanation as to why they did not activate it.

There was nothing stopping them from doing it.

You don't know that.
Reporters have asked TX officials in Kerrville why they didn't use IPAWS....they still haven't provided an answer.

So, yeah, they did not use it before the flooding. That is an established fact.

Nothing like old tech audible warnings................why didn't they have that?

However, weather service forecasters cannot issue instructions on whether to evacuate or wait for rescue; those messages are up to county or city officials.

The FEMA archive showed that Kerr County did not send any wireless alerts through IPAWS on July 4, when the flooding began.

I get amber alerts on an old flip phone I have that I cancelled the account on two years ago. It isn't turned on, and I get the beep tone on it. I never looked to see if their was a way to turn it off, I just assumed it was a law or something that they had to provide that warning. Don't see why it couldn't be done with weather alerts, but we get so many here people would just ignore them. I suspect it would be the case with any warning system here.

The sirens are cheap; Kerr County just didn't want to pay for them themselves, and wanted the state to pay for them. They talked about it for decades, and did nothing. My little town bought and installed our own; they're not all that expensive, $10K to $50K, depending on how many you want. We opted for two, but really only needed one, we're a small town. The VFW hell fund raisers, and so did the Senior Center, and had the money in a couple of months. It worked out to around a dollar per resident.

Is the NYT criticizing Trump's FEMA for being unable to aid Tx. flood victims while the freaking river was roaring? How unfair but predictable. I don't recall the NYT ever criticizing Old Joe's FEMA for refusing to aid North Carolina flood victims if they had Trump yard signs.

What did you do about it? lol nothing, so who appointed you an expert?

Nothing, you're another piece of shit using dead girls for your daily TDS rants, like all the other Democrat sociopaths and deviants, gimp. You will never do anything but snivel and whine, dufus.
So you answered your own question, shit-for-brains.

Refute what I said about the IPAWS system.....or just go **** yourself, MAGA lightweight.

Them is the 2 choices.

The Gray Lady was once the international standard bearer for what a great newspaper should be. What it has become and how low it has sunk once it became Democrat controlled and a propaganda machine for the woke Democrats is tragic. But nobody with a brain should believe anything it reports anymore.

That attack piece on FEMA would never have happened under Biden despite the extreme inefficiency and politically motivated agenda of that organization at that time. Or the fact that under Biden FEMA was understaffed by thousands of employees.

And they had to make up a ton of crap to attack FEMA now under Trump.

Yes FEMA is in a period of transition as the current administration works to make our government as effective and efficient as they can in the time they have to do that. So far we aren't even 6 months into the process and these things can't happen over night.

But Trump and Noem have moved from scrapping a really poorly organized and ineffective FEMA to maybe FEMA can be saved to a probable overhaul and restructuring of FEMA so it actually can do what it was intended to do. I think the Hill Country disaster in Texas will probably push that latter plan to continue.

But inaction of FEMA absolutely did not contribute to or exacerbate the tragedy that happened there.

Looks like Trump’s grand plan to “phase out FEMA” hit a brick wall…or maybe a raging flood. When Texas went under, FEMA couldn’t even pick up the phone: “nearly two‑thirds of calls” went unanswered two days after the flood hit. Turns out cutting staff and defunding emergency services isn’t just bold…it’s deadly.

And yet, Trump swooped in July 11, patting himself on the back, praising himself for doing what he just approved two days . Meanwhile, his Homeland Security sidekick Kristi Noem slapped a four-day “approval rule” on flood funds while she paused to choose her Insta portrait . Nothing says leadership like delaying rescue crews until you nail down the perfect selfie lighting.

So go ahead, Trump supporters—feel free to keep parroting “big government bad.” Just remember: when your money’s on the line, you love federal aid. When the chips are down, you beg and beg—and then mock anyone who dares ask why your “drain the swamp” hero let FEMA drown on his watch.

Your link just begs for money. That's called spam.

I’m curious how many calls were answered and how many went “unanswered”
I’m also curious how many is the norm after a disaster to go unanswered due to sheer volume of calls. Be a stupid sheep and act like this will help you tards in the midterms but any normal person would know this is not out of the norm for a disaster you retarded scumbag

Gee, and I bet that really gives you the giggles, huh, jackass? People drowned and you're glad because you think you can pin it on Trump. Tell me, jackass, other than the flood in Texas, what else did FEMA have to pick up a phone for? I used to work a job in a big plant where I could be high up on a ladder somewhere working, and if the phone rang (it had six lines), I was expected to answer it.

No, it sounds more like to me that idiots at FEMA did what you would do--- they just deliberately did not answer the phone nor respond just hoping to cause a disaster they could then say was Trump's fault.

My guess is that when Trump gets hold of it, there will be hell to pay.
