The building out of the renewable base power in Australia, California, and Texas is accelerating as grid scale batteries are taking the place of peaker plants. In fact, the combination of residential and grid scale solar has led to negative electrical prices for some mid-day hours in Australia. And the price of the units has for the utility scale batteries has decreased by 21% in the last 12 months. No matter what the political shills for the fossil fuel industry do now, the future is clear. Shear economics dictated that wind and solar are the future.

This was hopeful for California, until they decided to stop letting residential solar customers sell electricity back to the grid. Now they just take it.

Not much of an incentive for homeowners to invest in solar.

Yawning. We went over one massive CA solar plant being shutdown, scrapped to landfill. Yet you still chirp after the beating you took in that thread? Wow!

Ivanpah much?

As long as libs use their own private funds chasing the Lost Secrets of Atlantis I say more power to them

But they are finding many sneaky ways of sending the bill to the general public

The data centers in NOtVA are not powered by "renewables" I can fuckin' well tell you that.

Now they may be supplemented to a small extent but most of the power they suck up is from dependable NG fired power plants.

100 X 100 = 10,000. First, the assumption is based on present computer technology and present solar efficiency. Both of which are rapidly changing. Also, by Elon Musk's figures, a 10,000 square mile solar installation would run the whole of the US. That is 4.3 petawatt hrs. That is 4.3 X 10^15 watt hours. 100 megawatt hours is 100 X 10^6 watt hours. So your statement is ridiculous.

Without a source, your statement is worthless.

And how/where to dispose of the massive, toxic batteries when they reach end of life?
Try to keep up with the technology. They are already recycling the batteries at a profit. And many of the batteries coming only line are far less toxic, such as the LFP and Sodium batteries, just to name two.

Depends on the energy storage type. They are building a pumped hydro station near Goldendale, Washington that will power 500,000 homes for 12 hours. Seems you fellows would rather stand in the horse turds beside the road, yelling, "Get a Horse" than actually do minimal research.
It is all insanity. And battery backup lasts how long, an hour or two? And at what expense?

Silly ass, we taxpayers are subsidizing fossil fuels far more than renewables. And that is not even considering externalities like asthma and lung diseases.

I think battery technology can eventually live up to the dreams of the greenies

All it takes to begin the trip is one brilliant mind with an inspiration

But we are far from there now

no we dont

Government is not giving money away for consumers to buy gasoline

But it is paying consumers to go green

Sheer economics tell us that these so-called renewables, plus batteries at least double the cost of electricity.

You cannot run a grid off solar, wind or batteries.
LOL People like you said the EV's would never amount to anything. And that solar and wind would never take the place of coal. Now we get more power from solar and wind than from coal. And, in spite of the stupidest President this nation was ever cursed with, both are rapidly expanding, while coal plants are shutting down. And gas plants are next as the price of wing, solar, and batteries continue to come down.

Last I checked, you people were painting swastikas on electric vehicles and blowing up the charging stations.

No, they are paying the fossil fuel companies directly out of the taxes that you and I pay. Wouldn't it be nice if they did pay those fossil fuel subsidies directly to you and I. Also, by aiding in the purchase of residential solar, they are making homeowners both consumers and producers. In South Australia home solar with batteries contribute substantially to the grid, especially during peak hours.
The battery technology is already living up to it's promise. They are building a 8500 Megawatt battery in Maine as we post;

How is government paying fossil fuel companies?

Its not

Folk want/need cheap, reliable, convenient, portable energy for transport. They want/need cheap, reliable and convenient electric for their homes.

Solar and wind doesn't supply this.

I am not bothered if it's solar, wind, tide, hydro, gas, coal, nuclear etc.. that produces the electric to run my washing machine. I am only interested in it's price and reliability. If asked about what's the best option for electric production, I vote for nuclear. It's footprint is tiny, produces the least waste, and it's reliable. When fusion is harnessed in the decades to come, forget renewables.
