Want to help out our great state and have a good time doing it?
Mardi Gras Day is February 28th this year. And for those unfamiliar - Mardi Gras Day is the day the season ends, not when it begins. Best to come the Friday before and stay through Wednesday morning. Don't worry folks, they close it up at 12:01 am on Wednesday, plenty of time to get over the hangover to make it to Ash Wednesday Mass and back onto your plane. In fact, the only time they close the bars in New Orleans are between 12:01 am and 6 am Ash Wednesday and during mass natural disasters of catastrophic proportions. If you get the gumption, come on up to Baton Rouge on Saturday for our local Spanish Town Parade. Don't like big cities and want more of a familiy setting? Try the tradiational Mamou Mardi Gras, where all the men parade out of town on horseback wearing crazy costumes, they chase chickens, ride across the parish collecting ingredients for the gumbo to be served at the end of the day, while you dance the day away to live Cajun Music on the street as well as at Fred's - the Cajun Music Capitol of the World.
Can't make it down for Mardi Gras? Try the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. Always packed with tons of great jazz, cajun, zydeco, folk, country, rock, and gospel groups - this year we're feuturing U2! It happens during the last weekend of April and 1st weekend of May. For about $20 you get an entire day of music with about a dozen different stages to pick from at the fair grounds - plus there are countless acts happening outside the fairgrounds at night at various venues.
Help rebuild our city and state. Don't donate your money, come down here with your money, have a good time with it, and leave it here! We've got casinos as well - for the folks who like to get nothing for their money.
