hi, i'm here to inquire about opinions.
i was hoping for something like a 50% increase, not a 100% one.
the populations of North-America and the EU have been suffering extremely high consumer costs for a while now,
and i think that deserves more of our immediate attention than this excursion into true saber-rattling and warmongering.

how about you?

US has become an unreliable partner with constant shifts in political stances.
EU can’t depend on the US being there for them

They are the ones under a direct threat and should increase spending for their own defense

Wasn't it you who was talking about 'peace through strength'?

S/b "increase spending for THE PROMOTION OF ZIONIST FASCISM IN ISRAEL AND UKRAINE."

He is just trying to make a more profitable living for the MIC of the USA and the EU - Mark Rutte is a scandal ridden Neo-liberal moron.
Also explains his "hugging" trip to Trump, after hugging with Biden - upon the US election outcome.

There is absolutely no need to raise the EU/NATO military expenditure above 1.5% - since this figure already sufficed to outspend Russia on a factor of 8:1 throughout the past 20 years.

The EU has nothing to gain - actually they will only achieve a negative result, via attaching themselves to the USA's foreign policy - which only acts on behalf of the USA's Global hegemony agenda towards China and any other non-USA dependent/friendly country.

What needs an urgent restructuring process is as onto what those existing defense budget allocation of 1.5 % to the respective national forces are conducted in view of necessary JOINT EU operations - aka who spends how much on what military systems - and how are these individual national units to be combined. Aka what good is e.g. the Portuguese national navy's budget allocation, in the event of a confrontation in the e.g. Baltic Sea.

Imagine Florida maintaining it's own national defense budget - and in the event of a crisis concerning California - will priorities their own national (State) defense interests. - aka, sorry we can't really spare any units for you California.

Off-course the USA loves the present totally uncoordinated national defense budget allocations and military command structure within the EU - since they provide an everlasting huge market for them, and guarantee/necessitate the involvement of US units in Europe.

yes, quite, lol :)

but i did mean projecting strength with a moderate and always justifiable defense budget increase model.
and that means becoming good at diplomacy, nothing short of that.

military strength should always be in support of real, honest and public diplomacy efforts.

Yeah, and as a result you have nothing of that.

NATO should be determining the military support it needs based on the threat and the resources needed to face that threat.

An arbitrary 2-3 percent of GDP is no way to plan for war

i think we can trust the planners and bean-counters of the NATO defense wing.
but it's going to need anti-corruption measures applied constantly.
Pete Hegseth FTW!..

I think we need to GTFO of NATO and let these folks fend for themselves. We need to be focused on protecting OUR border, not anybody else’s.
That's one of the ironies in life for this old man. In the 50s we were all trained and conditioned to fear the Russians, and that has basically gone on for my entire life.

Now in the autumn of my life, it turns out that while the Russian government protects its own people and borders, our government brings in millions of undocumented immigrants. It's painfully obvious that our government does not give a damn about the borders or the citizens.

the Dems are sell-outs to the immigrants that have already taken root in the US, is what i think of it.

we let (most of) the weapons be designed and fielded by the US. :)
WW1 and WW2 taught us the necessity of that.
Not only that. You let your armies be flushed down the sewage. They are not fit even for military parades anymore.
