The geography maps make the USA look Red-State Dominant, where land is located. The Enumeration people make the USA look Blue-State Dominant, where actually living human beings are located. Los Angeles, for example, has inhabitants. The politics are Blue-State. The High Sierra has vacant land and trees in abundance--even this year likely snow-fall--but nobody lives there. The Politics are heavily Red-Counties areas. My grandfather's grandfather got out of Texas--District One Area--before it became a founding geography, of KKK activity. A Horse-Breeder / Cattle Rancher, likely needed to get away before Lincoln set about, freeing them too. Even then, the Republicans didn't make a lot of sense. The Breeders and Planters alike had assets. Like in the Recent Foreclosure Crisis, the Republicans had no concept of what exactly asset values--and the math--were all about.

Back to math, 39% voter turnout speaks less to a mandate, or even a landslide, or even a woman-date(?). Certain counties likely turned out more than other. That geography, and disillusionment, likely cost the Democrats the relatively few seats they actually lost. The Disillusioned, suddenly, are becoming active again. That so far impacts only a few counties, of less than a mandate-landslide-or even a woman-date turnout!

The recent street-level turnouts are not in Calaveras County, in California, but more into Oakland, Berkley, San Francisco, and Los Angeles: Just in California. St. Louis areas--where now famous Ferguson is located--are even nearer to Mark Twain, area counties, than is Calaveras, or San Francisco county. A motivated turnout is awakening to a new election-cycle, easily underway.
