After the British variant and its South African and Brazilian counterparts, a new mutation of coronavirus has just been identified. Although there are in fact many variants, this one is to be closely watched in the same way as the three cities previously, if not more.
A particular mutation in the Spike protein
British researchers have discovered that the first cases of this new variant, called B1525, date back to December 2020. Since then, 39 cases have been detected in the United Kingdom and 35 in Denmark. There have also been 29 cases in Nigeria, 10 in the United States, 2 in Australia... In all, thirteen countries are affected, including France with 5 cases. But these figures are most likely below reality and are constantly changing. You can find the updated figures here in this report from the University of Edinburgh.

Scientists are alarming because B1525 has several mutations including E484K. It is a mutation on the Spike protein, found on South African and Brazilian viruses. This allows the coronavirus to penetrate better and thus infect cells. But it would also have an impact on the effectiveness of some vaccines. Other mutations have been reported, Q677H and F888L, whose specific effects are not yet known.

A virus from Nigeria?

If the virus was first detected in the UK in mid-December, this does not mean that it is the place of origin of this mutation. These "first infected" were linked to Nigeria, where one case was discovered in late December and 12 of the first 51 samples analyzed showed the presence of this new variant. At this time, it is difficult to know where this mutation was born and which country was subsequently contaminated.

We must therefore closely monitor this variant without giving in to panic. Especially since with the proliferation of variants for several months, including some that possess the E484K mutation, the laboratories are already working on a new formula of the vaccine. This should make it possible to be as effective as ever, regardless of whether the targeted virus has mutated or not.

Dalia, Yes, keep posting on the actual amino acid names. On 22 Jan 2021, we posted the report from Toscana, Italy, for the E484K mutation, which can be read at posts #264 and #265 of the Biological Politics thread. E484K has also been found in Japan, along with N501Y, supposedly one of the B.1.1.7 mutation collective.

Seems quite like someone is out there hybridizing the "original" strain.

Yes, i will read some of the post , i already read other from the biological Politics thread there are a lot of thread at the forum and also a lot of different version of the dangerousness of the new mutation in the news but for now here in France it is Silence Radio about what is going on.

This thing seems to behave as it pleases for me it's not a SARS-CoV, it's something else?

Seems like it. Let's just hope all of these mutations/variants die out and we achieve herd immunity.

Immunity is immanent with regard to the vaccine. Nowhere have we seen strong evidence for concern with mutations. If the reader thinks they have a citation proving otherwise, please post it.

Hello badger2, in my link this is what it said about the vaccine and the new variant.

Dr Simon Clarke, an associate professor of cellular microbiology at the University of Reading, said that while it was unclear what effect many of the mutations may have on the ability of the coronavirus to establish an infection or on the severity of disease, the presence of the E484K mutation was known in the South African variant to confer a degree of resistance to some vaccines.

“We don’t yet know how well this [new] variant will spread, but if it is successful it can be presumed that immunity from any vaccine or previous infection will be blunted,” he said.

I think we’ll have to live with it.

Unless one day, it just decides to go away.

Yes, the covid will probably like for the flu it will come back every year hope that we will not live indefinitely like the Chinese with the mask on the mouth.

Coronavirus has been known of here and has been mutating since the 1960s

It is not a question of being afraid or not but rather of what really is happening when my government tells us that young children are not contagious and that a friend close to me his little one brings it home and my friend loses his sense of smell and that at night he can no longer breathe at all and he has anxiety attacks , I do not believe it's like a simple flu and more here in France the information is always contradictory so I try to get information as best as I can for mostly protected those around me who are older i mean the forgotten of the system in retirement homes.

“Some coronavirus somewhere mutating since the 1960’s“ is not scientific discourse. Dalia’s report on E484K is from 15 Feb 2021, while the Toscana E484K report we posted is from Dec 2020. E484K, as we have shown in the Toscana E484K report behaves very similarly to the N501Y mutation. Therefore, in what complex of mutations does N501Y belong? This N501Y portrayed in the media was supposedly a South African mutation. The problematic is that N501Y first arose in Chinese lab mice, not humans, and was reported in Sep 2020.

The best way to mystify the biology and science of COVID-19 is to not list all of the mutations in the 17-member complex called B 1.1.7 and not completely list the mutations in B1525. At this point, it is impossible for science to claim that each mutation in the complex is contributing to increased virulence or contagion. This is true: the Chinese are studying and learning about their lab-induced mutations in mice previous to them occurring in H. sapiens, making each mutation the star in an ongoing unfolding drama. Boris Johnson now aligns with Biden in calling for Chinese transparency about origins of the virus, though Johnson knows quite well that Biden said nothing about it during the election campaign. The reason is that Biden is not only a catholic puppet, but a CIA puppet.

Clarke’s “degree of resistance to some vaccines” for E484K may still not be enough evidence for concern.

E484K Post-Vaccination Sera

Neutralization of N501Y Mutant SARS-COV-2 by BNT162b2 Vaccine-Elicited Sera

This report, however, mentions modifying vaccines to address the E484K mutation:

’....the partial resistance of virus with the B.1.351 spike protein could render some individuals less well protected, supporting a rationale for the development of modified vaccines containing E484K.’
