By using Chlorine Dioxide in a permiable pouch that vents the gas at a controlled rate the Agriculture Research Service helped develope a way to reduce risks of e.coli and other harmful pathogens, while also reducing spoilage. With only 1-3 per crate these pouches are cost affective for package houses and retailers, & hopefully when mass produced something for the consumer will also be available that's cost affective for your refridge storage bin.
Study results can be found in 1/2017 copy of HortScience or read more in The July issue of AgResearch magazine.
