I could possibly have been named Dorothy. Instead of getting her first name, I got my Aunt Dorothy's middle name, and could have been stuck wondering for my whole life why everybody called me Dot.

A guy I knew named his female lab "Mary". At first I thought it was a little weird but after being around the dog for a while Mary was the perfect name for this sweet dog.

Another fellow named his quarter horse mare "Mary" which was an awful name for her as she was as nervous as a long-tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs, built like a horse version of a bodybuilder, and always wanted to run.

As a Catholic, Mary sounds sweet and respectful to me.

Most definitely! Gotta go pick her up tomorrow. Gonna trick my son by telling him he's got to go with me because I need help loading something in my Jeep from an Amish market in PA. I've got a few things from Petsmart that I'm going to put in a gift bag and put under the seat - crystal studded collars (one red, one pink), Mrs. Claus velvet dog dress, dog blanket, couple of small squeaky toys, and a small bag of treats. The idea is to have him open that on the way. I'm gonna go to Hallmark in a few minutes and get a card, then print out a picture of her to put inside it.

The reason I decided on a basset hound is because for the past few months, he's been showing me funny videos of basset hounds and wondering what the major difference between them and beagles are, besides the ears. (He knows they're shorter and have stronger sense of smell.) He has a beagle, so why not surprise him with a basset puppy!

Oh okay. I thought of it because a basset is close to a bloodhound and I love The Fox and The Hound. His Copper is probably a male though but I thought that it could possibly be a unisex name.

You need to pick the name. But hubby suggests "Arf." He always wanted a dog named Arf so when he stuck his head out to call in the dog, the neighbors would hear "ARF! ARF!"

I got my dog from the humane society...I laid down with her on my floor and pet her...and kept asking her "What is your name"?

After about 30 minutes I heard "My name is LADY papa".

I said out loud "LADY"...and she looked at me with eyes the size of dinner plates and I heard "YOU HEARD ME"???

I said out loud "Yes LADY...I heard you".

Her tail went THUMP THUMP THUMP against the floor.

It happens like that. You are lucky that you heard her.
