I have personally struggled with this one too. First, the FCC chair did not demand Kimmel be fired but did say they would look into his really offensive remarks re Charlie Kirk. Kimmel's rhetoric strongly tying MAGA to Charlie's killer was not only offensive, but inflammatory disinformation making it break the FCC requirements that network stations serve their people. In my opinion that was worse than firing Bill Maher for joking about 9/11 though that was hugely offensive to just about all decent Americans.

Second, it occurred to me that there is a strong possibility that ABC took Kimmel off the air not because of the FCC chair's 'threat', but used that as an excuse to get rid of somebody with pitifully low ratings and losing money for the network. And Kimmel was being paid something like $15 million per year which probably was a big part of that.

Ted Cruz is right that there is a slippery slope here. If we urge removal of people because we don't like what they say or how they say it, once the Democrats are back in power they will use that as precedent to shut down our side completely. But again there must be standards for broadcast radio/television and most of us think Kimmel crossed that line with his so-called 'humor'.

So I am struggling with Ted's perspective on this one while also mulling that Kimmel's lame effort to tie MAGAs to the killer should not stand with impunity. Kimmel is worth some $50 million I think so it isn't like he will starve on the unemployment line or anything.

In some cases (depending on the issue and supposed free market forces that are being politically exploited), we get what we get in mobs attempting to by pass the rules of the road, where as they want to take everyone through the farmers field where dust goes to flying and common sense goes right out of the window.

He's a politician. He does put America first and is not shy about giving his opinion even when that is opposed to almost everybody else on our side. I don't have to agree with him and sometimes don't, but give him props for more intellectual honesty than most politicians.
