My encounter with a census workers

So yesterday, I was at my Mom's house, in the most socialist state of our country. Why I am here is irrelevant.

Anyway, this woman knocks on my Mom's door, and I was almost afraid to answer it because she looked like some sort of creek creature/methhead?????

I opened the door and she started grilling me immediately, "who are you,?" "Why are you here?" "wheres the woman of the house?" She did not identify herself,and I had to look at the clipboard she was carrying before I realized that she was a census worker aka redcoat.

I told her I was at my mothers house and I dont live here so I could not answer her questions. She persisted, and I said it it none of your damned buisness what I am doing here. She then told me that I MUST tell her. MUST.

I became quite enraged at this point and told her that my is mother at the hospital with her daughter who is undergoing a life threatening procedure. Then I told her to get out of my face.

In the next post I will tell you of my second encounter with said census worker AND her husband AKA another census worker, on the same property, the following day.

Needless to say, I am livid, considering what is happening to my sister and my families state of affairs

Cool, maybe they'll stop fixing the roads and sidewalks in your mom's neighborhood.

I cannot believe these freaks used the fact that they were told about the hospital situation to try to gleen more info today. I thought the second one was a preacher or something, he too did not identify himself, then I saw his wife, and I went a little ballistic

Do you think I want to get shot at when I'm knocking on people's doors if I do this part time this summer? From what I get from the folks on here, that's what they are threatening to do. Those kinds of things wouldn't have even crossed my mind if not to read that.

Trust me, I'm rethinking this part time job, though I need the money for Grad School classes this summer.

Then link to a post indicating a plan to shoot a census worker. I'm sure you can do it.

Do you think I want to get shot at when I'm knocking on people's doors if I do this part time this summer? From what I get from the folks on here, that's what they are threatening to do. Those kinds of things wouldn't have even crossed my mind if not to read that.

Trust me, I'm rethinking this part time job, though I need the money for Grad School classes this summer.

the worker should have said...hi my name is....and i am with the 2010 census and handed you a confidentality paper...i would report them to the local census office and demand to speak with their fos or field operations superviser....but i warn you this will just result in more visits...


okay people here are the rules.. they are allowed to contact you up to 6 times....3 by phone...easy to duck...3 in person...not so easy to duck...

the worker..should be in business casual....and should have on a badge and emergency field card...around their neck...they should id themselves and then hand the the confidential thing...they are not to be rude or forceful...no matter what the homeowner says...if you are threatened you call the police...if the homeowner tells you to leave you leave..

echo...i never had anyone be hateful...now some simply refused to fill out the form or answer the questions...i was good to go with that...but you will find that the "government way of doing things" will fuck you. they want you to read verbatium this form to them...that is when they hang up or shut the door...me, i just said...hey we can do this the fast way or the official way...everyone opts for the fast way...use common sense...and they will all say this...."i mailed the form back" they were telling me that before the forms were even mailed....

the county i live in...has the lowest respondant rate of any county in the state...lol....i dont think i will be going out tracking down non respondants...the man is really objecting to that...

I think Bones probably has given the best response to the OP. Census workers should have IDs and should be able to provide something that says they are a census worker. In any event it doesn't make any difference whether it's a census worker or not, there's no excuse for anybody displaying the type of conduct described by PixieStix if they are on some kind of legitimate business.

I don't care what situation is put out, there's a scam artist at the ready to take advantage of it and do their dirty deeds.

As for "creek creatures," there's a lot of people out there that could fit the description - I've just never heard them called "creek creatures." Pixie, you coined a great phrase there!! I like that!!

At the bottom line on this year's census, the anger is over the evasiveness of the information asked. There are questions that are entirely inappropriate and non-essential for counting heads." Some people are getting short forms and some are getting these long forms. I'm grateful that I got a short form, but even there I had questions. I understand asking for race - perfectly fine. But the next question asked for ethnicity. What the hell does that have to do with anything? Hell, being of Irish, Polish, Greek, Bosnian or any other descent has nothing to do with anything as far as I can tell - they're all generally classified as "white" or "caucasian." "Hispanic" doesn't matter whether you're Mexican, Puerto Rican or Columbian.

Good Point, I'm sure a lot of con artists would use this to get into people's homes.

But, if she DOES work for the Census, than Pixie does need to lodge a complaint.


But also Pixie, keep in mind not everyone who works for the Census is rude like that lady. They hire people from all walks of life, just like any other job out there.

My friendly neighborhood census taker is sweet as pie, an angel from heaven. We are going to throw her a farewell party her last day on the job.
