The equivalent of the English word "friend" is "sadiq" in Arabic, verse does not use the word "sadiq", it uses the word "evliyae", this word is only used to describe most respected persons of faith in Islamic word. To translate it as "friend" is not a mistake but includes lack of meaning. I dont know which word in English would fully satisfy the meaning of "evliyae", I have used the word "model" but still its not enough to satisfy the original meaning.
