They both want Russian minerals. China will most likely get them first. But before that happens Russia will destroy the atmosphere and eliminate all satellite usage. An alternative theory is that America needs to eliminate the competition in order to remain as the lone superpower.

This satisfies the question on why America is using the Ukraine as it's proxy and feeding hundreds of billions of dollars into the war effort.
