Well, actually, we kind of did. Japan was pretty much minding its own business until Commadore Perry showed up with a bunch of ships and started making threats. Japan then realized that if they didn't want to end up like the Phillippines, they needed to be militaristic.

Third, it was the US that insisted as part of the Washington Naval Treaty of 1921 that the UK stop assisting the Japanese militarily.

Actually, Canada has mostly gotten it right. They largely mind their own business, they take care of their own people. We need to be more like Canada.

Who says? The British and French weren't disbanding their empires voluntarily. In fact, they used WWI as an excuse to expand their empires by carving up the remains of the Ottoman and German Empires. One of the reasons why Japan and Italy threw in with the Axis was because while France and Britain made out like bandits, Japan and Italy didn't get shit on the deal.

The reasons why Empires collapsed after WWII was because the Western Powers that still maintained them no longer could, the war weakened them too much.

In fact, interestingly enough, the Japanese promoted an "Asia for Asians" policy that encouraged a lot of nations to rebel against their Colonial Masters, and a lot of their "Quislings" enjoyed nice political careers in some of the post-war countries that emerged.

So this is a case of "It's okay when White People Do It."
