MPs back plans for abortion clinic buffer zones in England and Wales

A rare occasion where parliament gets it right. It is intolerable that women going in for medical procedures are accosted by "westboro baptist" type cranks and lunatics.

Worrying that 110 MPs voted against this measure. We need to name them and shame them, We should not have this issue politicised as it is in backward countries.

LOL....What, you skeered Texans are going it invade or something? :laughing0301:
They have already

Texas-based anti-abortion group start 40 days of protest outside Scottish hospitals

A US anti-abortion campaign group has said it will help mount a legal challenge if a law to implement buffer zones is passed in Scotland.
Texas-based 40 Days for Life is already active outside clinics and hospitals in Scotland.
The group's volunteers carry out what they term "vigils" but others claim the protests intimidate vulnerable women.
First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said those who oppose abortion should do so outside parliament, not hospitals.

.......
She told the BBC Scotland Disclosure programme - The Abortion Front Line she was determined to do everything she could to resist US anti-abortion groups intervening in Scottish laws.
The first minister pledged in June that the Scottish government would back a member's bill which would see 150-metre no-go areas placed outside health facilities so women could access services without fear, harassment or intimidation.
US group to fight Scotland's abortion buffer zones

I had expected to see that Scotland already had them in but it looks like the Texans are trying to use Scottish law to get them to stay intimidating. England's recent Health Ministers did not accept this so I am thinking the Tories think this is an election winner which is why they have voted for it. Northern Ireland has been trying to get it for it for some years as well. Not sure what has kept them.

Hopefully they will hear the message now. They have no right to intimidate women who are going for an abortion.

Its a very stressful time for the patient. Having these loons hanging around makes it worse.
It is also unpleasant for the staff who face this every day.

This makes Britain a better place to live. I expect you have similar in the US.

Here in the United States, we have Freedom of Speech and Assembly. That's the reason why we declared our independence from the colonialist Brits.

Abortion clinics can be protested against, just like anyone else.

Theey can still protest, 150m away. And |I doubt Wahington went to war in order to protest abortion clinics. It was more likely to keep slavery.

Poor babies! Look at what complete victims their genitals made of them!

Those raging, uncontrollable genitals!

In the ancient tongue of my late husband's Japanese ancestors, you are kuruuresu.

Freedom of Peaceful Assembly you weak subjects should try it.

BTW.....Fuck the King.
They are free to assemble 150m away. In America you have been forced to erect fences all around rge Capitol becuse of right wing traitors.
This is a similar form of protection. We need to protect women from loons.

How's that? Did a Hindu or Muslim finally step in to show you how to run your country for you now?

Killing the healthy, viable patient because your own actions resulted in giving life to another is NOT "healthcare," Booby.

are accosted by "westboro baptist" type cranks and lunatics.
Yep, those crazy people just trying to get you to stop MURDERING PEOPLE.

You should name them and shame them, lock them away for 6 months or a year and maybe a good flogging as well with a wet bullwhip, to teach them not to stand up against so great and as free a society as yours! :smoke:

We should not have this issue politicised as it is in backward countries.
Thank you for your forward thinking country where those merely disagreeing with deliberate infanticide are locked away and their lives ruined! Don't forget to fire them from their jobs and ban them from buying food as well! Got to protect those women! Except the women you murder in the womb or lock away for caring about human life. Funny how OTOH, you want to hold people RESPONSIBLE for eating a bad diet that makes them obese and drives up their healthcare costs, but let that same person go out and have deliberate, voluntary, unprotected sex and get themselves knocked up and you can't wait to help them to the medical table to take a human life just because it inconvenienced the slutty mother.

This issue is mainly about Texans coming here and protesting. There are other things going on but that seems to be what it is. Scotland certainly earlier this year were going to allow some protests in some places for freedom of speech. I really do not know how that works out. It is always rights. You have a right unless your right is going to interfere with someone else's right. In reality Texan's should decide what happens in Texas and let the people of the UK choose how the UK should be.

However that the UK is hitting back at protests is completely true. We are entering a situation where not only will most protests now come with the possibility of a long prison sentence but having been in one in the past carries dangers too.

Under the public order bill, anyone who has protested in the previous five years, or has encouraged other people to protest, can be forced to “submit to … being fitted with, or the installation of, any necessary apparatus” to monitor their movements. In other words, if you attend or support any protest in which “serious disruption to two or more individuals or to an organisation” occurs, you can be forced to wear an electronic tag. “Serious disruption” was redefined by the 2022 Police Act to include noise.

This is just one of a series of astounding measures in the bill, which has been hardly remarked upon in public life as it passes through Britain’s legislature. What we see here is two losses in one moment: the final erasure of the right to protest, and political journalism’s mutation from reporting substance to reporting spectacle. These are just the latest of our losses.

That is just one of five laws coming in which will turn the UK from a democratic nation to an authoritarian/fascist one.
