Zone1 Mormons outraged after Pentagon no longer counts LDS as Christian

They are often individually very kind and generous people, but they are not Christians.

They believe:

1. Jesus and Satan are spirit-brothers
2. God is/was married
3. When they die, they go on to inherit their own planet with their own wife and have endless spirit-babies

You can belong to many denominations and still be within Christian orthodoxy. But the above is absolutely not it.
All you say is true and for a number of reasons they have turned their back on Christianity to form their own sect along with a few beliefs that fall well outside of Christianity. There is one tenet to which they hold fast--and that their faith includes entering into a relationship with Jesus Christ. From here we enter into Trinity--Father, Son, Holy Spirit. Their teachings on Trinity however false still cannot dismiss that the Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father and the Son.

My belief is that God's Holy Spirit reaches out to all, wherever we may be which takes me back to Jesus' prayer that we might all remain one. As Christians, we have not (yet) succeeded in this. While those of the LDS faith may be further away from that oneness Jesus prayed for I don't believe they should be booted out of Christianity until the rest of us work on becoming one again and then only if they absolutely refuse to reconnect.

I do find this concept of the Government deciding which religions are legitimate amusing.

I've always said we should license religion. The way you get your license is the top guy in your church gets thrown off the top of the Willis Tower and if God catches him on the way down, his religion must be legitimate.

The Book of Mormon is recognized by no one other than Mormons and is not part of the Bible.
The Ethiopian Christians have 81 books of the Bible, but protestant Christians have only 66, and the Catholic Bible 73 books. Protestants don't recognize the books in the Ethiopian and Catholic Bibles as biblical scripture, yet they still are accepted as Christians. I know nothing about what is in this Book of Morman or even much of their history or traditions other than having more than one wife thingy which is a no no to Christians....

But what I do know is when discussing religion, Christianity, and Bible Scripture with the Morman or LDS on this site, they are quite knowledgeable, and know the Bible well.

Maybe we can have some our regular LDS members chime in on this.
That's a great question! It's always possible they do not want to be lumped in and classified with all the other Christians of whom they believe are in apostasy?

In 2026, the Department of Defense reduced its list of recognized religious affiliation codes from about 211 to 31.

211 "religions".....Come on man. :eusa_wall:

That would be about like USMB establishing a religion headed by Mortimer and expecting it to be recognized by the .mil. ;)

Hell, I think 31 is too many.

Yes. Plus it isn't 'the Government', unless there was coup last night and I slept through it.

They aren't deciding legitimacy, just classifications. They aren't banning anything,

I agree that the Holy Spirit can move however He wants, absolutely. It is possible--even likely, I might say--that Mormons can be individually saved Christians.

But this would be in SPITE of their church's teachings, and that matters. Theology and orthodoxy matter.

Different Christian denominations do different things with the books written in early Christendom.

None of them accept the writings of a man who put rocks in a hat and peered into it to get revelations from God (apparently) in the early 1800s

Yes. Joseph Smith put magic rocks into a hat to get his Book of Mormon.

Really.

It's no more a stretch than getting ate by a whale and getting spit back out later.

I have lived amongst Mormons most of my life. I don't recall ever seeing an "outraged Mormon".
I imagine though that their "outrage" would include things like praying for guidance, praying for blessings and if they are really outraged they might baptize my dead grandparents.

I dislike the government trampling on the 1st Amendment.

They're not. Mormonism is listed as a recognized religion in the military. Why do YOU care if it's listed under Christian or not? What's your stake in this?

Instead of magic carved rocks on a hillside a few years earlier?

I already stated why I care.

They're still listed as a religion, so no one is getting rights trampled. Why do YOU care that they're not classified as Christian?
