It looks to me like electric cars are not quite ready for prime time. If I spend 100K on a car I would like to be able to drive cross country with two drivers (say from New York City to San Francisco) in about 41 hours.

Many of us want to get to where we are going as fast as possible. I have no desire to be sitting around twiddling my thumbs while my 100K piece of crap is changing.

Perhaps in a few years to a decade electric cars and the way they charge will improve a lot.

The Contradictions of Battery Operated Vehicles​

This talk will challenge the popular perception that Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) are environmentally friendly, and will argue that we are inappropriately rushing the market introduction of these vehicles. BEVs are commonly sold under the guise of being ‘Zero Emissions,’ an assertion that is not true by any definition. Brake pads produce emissions, as do tires and even interiors under sunlight.

The electricity that powers BEVs is generated by power plants, 64% of which burn fossil fuels in the U.S.—fossil fuels that contribute to greenhouse gas emissions and global warming. Even more importantly, there are significant CO2 emissions created during the manufacture of the battery pack, meaning that in order to offset the carbon created during the production process, a BEV must drive 40,000 - 100,000 miles before being environmentally comparable to a gasoline-powered vehicle.

I didn't read the article since it was behind a pay wall, but I didn't need to. Evs are not meant for super long road trips spanning four days, so this story should not be a shock to anyone. Electric cars have their drawbacks, most of which are actually pointed out in the non related video within the article but not in story itself. One of the greatest drawbacks for EVs outside of Tesla is the supercharging infrastructure. It's just not great, which is why if you're considering an EV it should be a Tesla. It has the most features, is the safest car in the world, has autopilot, interior and exterior cameras and generally a host of features you can't find in any other car. Thanks for the tinfoil rant though.

Gasoline powered cars are easily adapted for hydrogen, ethanol, propane, etc.
We can easily generate these fuels with nuclear, bio, geothermal, wind, photovoltaic, etc.

A typical 4-CYL car will get ~30mpg on long open HWY trips. To go 1000mi you need ~33 GAL total. 33GAL*$4/gal is $133 gas cost (not $275). I take issue with the whole story.

Got it. Everyone required to buy a Kia Forte. All the other car manufacturers that don't meet that standard should be immediately shut down. You refuse to accept the fact that EV technology will get better, and the transition to electric power won't be completed until they can match or excede what we have now.
