He is demonstrating the socialist attitude toward retirees: people have use only as long as they are working. After 40 years of paying taxes, contributing to society, and paying into old-age programs like SS and Medicare, the socialists would just wish they would die.

I am not one of the 1%. I always bought health insurance, though, even as a 23-year-old living in a dumpy apartment. I COULD have skipped out on the medical insurance, and afforded a better apartment, but I was responsible.

Even a 23-year-old can get hit by a car and land in the hospital for six weeks. Why should one person buy insurance in case that happens, and another who decides to spend money on trips instead of insurance, get other people to pay for her hospital bill?

Should we encourage that type of irresponsibility by actually telling her to go ahead….have fun….because other people will pay your doctor’s bill for you?

Thank God that I don't live in Indiana. In Texas the 66% payed by the state negates the whole bill. The hospital doesn't get that payment unless they agree to drop the remainder.

The last time the gop had an actual policy about how people with chronic illness can afford to pay hospital bills was when Mitt Romney honestly said "we have bankruptcy." He was pilloried, but honestly, his answer was truthful, and not all that awful. Dad gets cancer. Family uses bankruptcy, discharges med debt (so you and I pay) and Dad gets on Medicaid but family gets to keep house.

Now matter what the dems do, it will not change anything about who pays the unpaid bills .... we do.
