Kids do have daddies. Usually they are at work when their children get out of school. Obviously you missed the point that there are intelligent teachers that know building a relationship outside of school can translate to more engaged students in school. Nothing turns kids off like a disinterested teacher.

Teachers have to be really careful these days regarding 'building a relationship' with students 'outside of school.' Anything happens and the teacher is accused even though he/she may not be at fault. Most teachers establish outside of class relationships with student doing extra curricular but school supervised activities with kids after school. That's the safest way to protect everyone. My area in the States had an elementary after school program supervised by teachers and teaching assistants so kids could stay on campus until a parent was able to pick the kid up; then kids didn't walk home alone or go to an empty home. That's the best way, IMO. The kids played sports, games, socialized and had snacks.

To get back to the good Samaritan teacher: Does he know that the Teachers Union will certainly discipline him for doing something that is not in his job description? He better get used to the idea, because unionist thugs do not tolerate decency and voluntarily helping others.

I am willing to bet this guy is a union member only under duress as all other decent teachers are.
