More economic good news, unemployment rate drops to 8.6%

The California had emerged decades ago: Go To Public-Funded Schools. Go To Public-Funded Universities. Join Civil Service. Never Work A Single Day In all Your Life!

Keep California Green and Golden: Send Money!

Reagan-Bush knew about California, and created the giant federal deficits spending breakthroughs, for bureacratcy-university-governmnet contractor rich.

Now there is even "Occupy Wall Street," as the counter to all of that.

And anyone was even expecting the former Bush-Cheney Adminsitration to go into this economy, and look for work?

"Crow, James Crow: Shaken, Not Stirred!"
(Household Survey up in recovery mode, now four months in a row! 275,000 jobs or more each month, now on record!)

Hey! My husband had that mindset. I was a bill collector, so I wasn't actually "working."

I wonder how you'd do, carrying a full course load.

if the three even stayed counted, then of the "4" you're talking about, there's 25% less unemployment. I don't see why that would be a negative, but ok.

There is not 25% less unemployment. U6 is still around 16.5%.... it has not changed. Even if U3 went down 25%, that would make it 6.9%, not 8.6%... anyhoo, this new rate is the result of a Gallop poll... not an official survey.

it is not a Gallop poll. Where the hell do you people come up with this stuff? It's the same two surveys that have determined employment data for decades.

Regardless of who is doing it, it's still a poll which means the numbers are subject to outliers.

You couldn't be any wronger if you were Paul Krugman.

I rounded 315 to 360 to get the 3:1 ratio of drops from the UE roll to the 120 hired because that's what happened.

For ever person hired, 3 just stopped looking for work. You call that Progress and good new and the DOW is up against because of it, I'll keep adding to my short position.

Said it before, one day we'll look back on this and laugh

It is a good thing. 120k more people are now empoloyed. How many "stopped looking" doesn't negate those new people working.

Yeah, terrific.

You bailed 120,000 gallons of water from the Titanic but 315,000 more gallons poured in, keep celebrating what a great job you did.

Math and logic was never your strong suit, Frankie.

This is great news. Congrats ,Barack Obama. If he can get us the rest of the way out of the middle east and this can keep improving...It will be very hard to unseat Obama in 2012.

This cant be disputed, but an attempt will be made in here.

Great news would be that hundreds of thousands were hired into permanent positions while the number of folks who stopped looking decreased as well as the unemployment number like it did today.

Today's news is good. Hopeful it lasts, but not optimistic.

One way the announcement of a drop to 8.6 could be good is the psychological effect it could have on consumer spending which could boost the economy and maybe have a carry-over to more spending and thus creating jobs.
I know I'm praying for this positive psychological ripple. We need something positive for the US.

Sure it's good. Too bad though that the Christmas season won't last much past January..

It happens every year. You would think the libs would get it by now.

I know right, some companies hire this time of year because of so many shoppers out there and business booming for christmas so they need the extra help, but they are temporary jobs that will go away after the holidays. The left never get this, and only use it because to the simple minded it makes it look like there messiah has actually done something right. It's sad when they reach this far.

Unemployment drops to 8.6%

Auto sales up 13.9%,

Pending home sales up 10%,

Retail sales up 16%,

The stock market up 500 points...

And it's all Obama's fault!

Overall, not a really good thing...

"Still, one reason the unemployment rate fell so much was because roughly 315,000 people gave up looking for work and were no longer counted as unemployed."

Stupid question here. Have people not been giving up looking for work all along? Of course they have. Therefore, the disclaimer is invalid.

I was thinking this same thing earlier today when the number came out. Personally, I'm spending less this year than what I have in the past. This number won't change that, but for some it just might.

Keep praying on the positivity kiwiman!

Actually, I thought you and many others on the left were saying that the numbers were bad all along becuase the GOP wouldnt let Obama do anything.

Well....what about this argument...

Voila...the GOP was right. Dont let Obama get anything done and the numbers will start to be rosier.

Or was your excuse all along nothing but an excuse?

Famously, The Bush Family stopped looking for work in 1942, and had really stopped by March, 2009. The Obama Administration was coming into office, and the Economic Lubrication was about to get under way.

The Republicans commenced stopping anyone from looking for work: Continuing the heady pace of economic collapse they had created, post-their-bubble, in 2007. Front-Runner, Giingrich, claims to have known about what the Republicans were doing, all along, and so he sold his insider information(?)!

The Great Socialist Interventions, even in Europe: Are re-commencing. Chairman Bernanke, Hero Of The Revolution, has followed along what Karl Marx had proposed in 1849: Which is an expanding credit market concept, worldwide.

In Contrast: There are the internationally well-known, "Lands of Lincoln! One is called Haiti. One is called East Africa in Drought. Doubtless, other names can be thought of. These are the lands of no regulations, and complete laissez-faire: That McConnell, Boehner, and Cantor want for the United States.

Even the thought is seen perishing.

(The Finaly Solution To the Presbyterian Question is gaining ground: "Where is All this money going to come from(?)?!")

You say that like Obama has actually ever had a real job. And just a reminder, Bush is no longer president, hasn't been for over 3 years now. Join us in the future, it sucks more now then it did then, but it's reality.

Economic failure happens in every socialist country. You'd think the libs might catch on to that by now, but....

When they run out of "other people's money" to give away for votes, the paid voters will rebel, Obama will declare a national emergency, Obama will install marshal law, Obama will be the Supreme Leader and dictator of all that happens.

Obama is a Marxist!

That "Bush" thing is for the naive.

Bush was President. He was not congress.

With the exception of some executive orders and choosing what is on the menu when foreign dignitaries visit, Bush had very little power as it pertains to ljust about anything else.

Thus why I dont blame Obama nor do I praise him for a dam thing as it pertains to government activities.

I DO blame him, however, for his lack of leadership.

No it's not. The people that have stopped looking are still UNEMPLOYED. They just haven't been included in the government figures.

Liberals are just plain STUPID!

the number of people that have stopped looking had been increasing monthly at an increasing rate...as it is a direct reflection of the number that became unemployed for the 18-24 months proior to any given month analyzed.

Although, I suspect that number is now increasing at a decreasing rate seeing as the number of unempoloyed stopped increasing a while back.

The figures are seasonally adjusted to account for that hiring.

Is that what it is, well then...pardon me.

Yes, that's what it is. The raw data shows that about 350,000 jobs were created. The seasonally-adjustment drops that figure to 120,000.

You're pardoned.

During prosperous times.....

Would you happen to know by what percentage of jobs created were seasonal jobs?

For example...according to your numbers above, seasonal jobs outnumbered non seasonal jobs by about 2:1 (230K : 120K)

I think knowing that ratio during a properous year would give us all a better feel for what is happening out there.

Personally i long for the Bush 4% Unemployment days. But hey if you want to celebrate this,go for it.
