More and more people enjoying more isolation

We like this change. Less people on the roads and fewer in restaurants. I do feel for the small business owner, as they are getting screwed.
If they can, they need to get their stuff up on the internet to sell, asap...with pick up avail to locals, so they can avoid shipping costs.
I doubt that will work for most businesses. Certainly not for small restaurants and cafes.

Amazon will merely get bigger and bigger and Bezos may soon own the world.

It works with restaurants in my area.

I've ordered from restaurants on line during this shutdown. It's either delivered or I go pick it up.

No problem.

Most of the restaurants around my area do exactly that.

this is the democrats way of isolation...if you believe their words...god forbid if you do...there next step after isolation is to sign the deed over to china or russia..WAKE UP PEOPLE....if you dont like the representation---you run for office...these fucking democrats dont want you to damn it....you must rely on them---tell the dems to go fuck themselves ---of course after you get asshole schumer out of botoxed prune face pelosis ass---oh btw prune face---where did all your money come from...sure as hell wasnt legal
Please put down the crack pipe!

Most restaurants were online before the virus.

Some will not make it without patrons physically coming to their restaurant. I’ve seen restaurants with reduced seating. It’s likely some can’t survive, unless they are at full capacity.

Bars and restaurants will have to adapt where people go out less. Or they can go out of business. The free market at work. Win win.

Bars and restaurants, will have a better chance of survival, when we developed an accurate rapid test for the virus... You get your answer in minutes, positive or negative, just by spit and s strip of reactive paper.... sold in every pharmacy, so we can test ourselves at home too!

All businesses could use this rapid test, on customers and employees....

Then, the economy could come back, with a bang, schools can safely open, churches can safely practice, sports can fill their stadiums, bars and restaurants can open safely etc etc etc.....

I know it might sound like a dream, but it is....What scientists and government should have been working towards.....imo.

We can do this!

It's already been done. It was FDA approved in March. It gives results in 45 minutes. It just isn't available to most people.

trump has it though. That's the test he uses and is uses on everyone who is going to be in his presence such as louie gohmert. That's how he found out he was positive.

..it's a web....restaurant workers would lose jobs....the businesses that provide services/food/etc for those restaurants will then lose jobs, and so on and so on

The test isn't as accurate as needed and 45 minutes is too long, we need an instant test for bars and other businesses...

They are working on it, multiple companies are working on it, I've heard....

We need it, as in yesterday, with quantities in the billions....

England and EU could let us fly there again too, with such a test.... all flying could come back, SAFELY.

It will solve many woes of this virus, until the population can be sufficiently vaccinated.

As things are fully opening up and I am still seeing stores with very few shoppers, restaurants with no people in them only takeout, iand in talking to people I am hearing being more isolated agrees with them and they are growing to like it. Working at home is so much better than having to go to the office plus they are so much more productive at home, which makes sense. Perhaps this change will be a big plus for society once the virus is under control.

I have, on numerous occasions, been blessed to work from home. Eliminate 1 hour of hair, makeup, and "getting ready for work". Eliminate 45 minutes of travel time in cattle car subways and buses, each way, and all of the stress involved in the commute. Working from home gave me back close to 3 hours of my life each day. Add in an hour for lunch and this was 4 hours of my life every day. For people who drive to work in rush hour traffic it's a God-send.

But it's the impact of eliminating commuting time and stress that makes it heavenly. Plus the creature comforts and lack of commuting expenses in working from home. It cuts carbon emissions, as cars stay in the driveway, as well as gasoline for the commute. I spent the additional 4 hours per day which were returned to me working from home, to keep my house in order, cook better meals for my family, and general give my family a less stressed, happier, healthier, better version of myself.

I could take a break and throw a load of laundry into the washer. Or make a stew for dinner. I've never been one to socialize with co-workers so I didn't feel "disconnected" from my world. I'd rather spend time with family and friends that I chose. Cutting commuting expenses, office lunches and snacks, saved big time money - $10 per day, minimum. $120 per month for a transit pass. Lunch $5. Coffee and muffins $3. The savings add up.

Yes that's true.

The smaller ones are being hit harder but they are all take out or delivery.

I try to order from the small ones to help them stay in business. We have a saying here, save your favorite restaurant order from them.

One of them, the best sandwich place in the area, was so overwhelmed with on line orders and over the phone they stopped it. They now only take orders through Uber Eats or Door Dash and in person at the shop for take out. The line is so long but everyone doesn't care because they make the BEST sandwiches. It's worth the wait. LOL.

I can't agree more.

I saw Dr. Vin Gupta, a specialist at the University of Washington Medical Center, in an interview on TV last week. He had this thing that was a test that was instant results. It didn't use blood but you breathed into it

He said they only cost 250 dollars and can be used for up to a couple hundred tests.

I tried to find an article on it but couldn't. I looked for the interview on YouTube but couldn't find it.

He said that it should be the standard test because it was nearly instantaneous.

I saw the interview on MSNBC. I don't know what day it was or what program on the station it was but if you can find it let me know.

Why do you keep looking backwards? Why are you so desperate to preserve McJobs that pay minimum wage with no health insurance, when this has the potential to open up white collar jobs for the masses? Companies can hire more workers, to increase the high end information technology and service industry jobs which are limited by the need for bricks and mortor businesses, to expand. If you can expand your workforce for the cost of a laptop and software instead of having to rent/purchase larger premises, and spend a shit ton of money on providing them with a workspace.

Americans are the most obese people in the first world, in large part because so few people are cooking at home. North Americans eat 1/3 of their meals outside the home. Everyone I know, myself included, lost weight during lockdown, simply because home cooked meals are healthier than processed "ready for the oven" dinners, or fast food meals Americans are normally eating.

Fewer low end jobs in the fast food industry, which taxpayers are currently subdizing through food stamps, MedicAid, Section 8 or other income supports, in favour of high end data driven jobs telecommuting is a win/win all the way around.
  • Reduced costs for workers in commuting means they get to keep more of what they earn;
  • Reduced wear and tear on municipal infrastructure with fewer cars on the road meaning lower taxes for road maintenance and repair;
  • More people eating at home improves the diets of Americans who are currently the most obese people in the first world, thereby reducing health care costs
This is like someone saying, "Why should we switch over from horses and buggies to cars?". What about the stable boys? The farmers selling grain for feed? The buggy makers? Those being displaced should be given free training for jobs in the "New Economy".

My son-in-law owns a small roofing company. He started from nothing when his daughter was born. Last year, his sales came close to $300K. He's gone from having his father drive him to his jobs to owing 2 trucks, 3 trailers, and 1 car. He is currently looking at a deal to sell and install solar panel roofs an exclusive relationship with Tesla, which could make him as rich as his grandfather, or he can continue doing quite nicely just installing shingles and torch down roofs in his city. Which route do you think this 27 year old man will take?

Evolve or die. That is your option. Start taking care of the people first. Get everyone well, and then get them back to work safely. The old "normal" is gone forever. The old "normal" isn't working for 40% of the American people.

If you have to rebuild, why not build on a solid foundation for the American people, instead of less for the people, more for the billionaires, which has been the result of every one of these crashes. Republicans are now actively trying to force people to "go back to the way things were", which wasn't working in the first place.

My favourite local eatery has been hit hard. They only did lunch and dinner - both eat in and take out, but most people ate in. "Cheap and cheerful" is the best description. Sunday dinner - roast beef, Yorkshire pudding, vegetables - mostly right out of the owners' garden, $9.99. Their business was down 70% because there was no lunch trade at all, so they were only open for dinner, eat-in dining was closed - and they were too small for government help.

I started getting take out from them once or twice a week, just to make sure they'd be open at the end of this. Same for other local non-chain store restaurants. We're only 5000 people, and we're a tourist town, with no tourists this year, but the line ups for our local restaurant take out, make my heart sing. This is the community pulling together to keep the local businesses going.

One of our favorite breakfast places hasn’t reopened. It’s a small tight restaurant, open only for breakfast and lunch. It was always busy.

My nearby golf practice range hasn’t reopened either. Looks like it’s abandoned. It had been open every summer for 50 years.

I'm saying that and I don't like to be around people.

I miss being able to get my own soda at restaurants that used to let the customers get the drinks themselves.

God bless you always!!!

Fuck That!!!
I want to go where I want when I want.
Who the fuck wants to go to a restaurant and wear a mask? I sure as hell dont and wont.
So no I'm not enjoying forced isolation by my gov.
If I want to be a hermit I dont need the government to force it on me,thats a personal choice.

I feel for the small businesses as well. Sam’s Club, Costco, Amazon, Walmart’s will all get bigger and bigger. Little guys will fall quicker. It used to be liberals hated the big box stores, it was a quality I liked about the libs, however they are sucked into the big corps they used to bitch about.

Our life is being home much more and enjoying our home, fixing it up to be more comfortable. I am done with dining out and going to public events, we like our privacy and won’t miss mingling with others.
