Monroe County (Rochester, NY) Sheriff deputy hospitalized after hitting deer on motorcycle

I gave up night riding in my rural area because of a couple close calls.
Have never hit one in a car either, but have been literally within inches of creaming a couple.

Without getting too localized, I will share this experience:

In my 'hobby time' years ago I was the managing partner of a large member hunt club. Whitetail deer being the focus (tho we had grouse, turkey, small game, and fishing)....but we existed because of whitetails.

So I did a periodic management report to more than 400 people.
In one year I gathered data from the state insurance bureau to add perspective to the our interactions with wild free-range deer.

The director told me that in the prior year the state had experienced 10 deer/vehicle fatalities.

And every single one of those fatalities were motorcycle riders.

Not cars. Not ATV's. Not UTV's. Not trucks.

It was the motorcycle riders who got the doe in the face....at 50 mph.

May they rest in peace.

"Routine" patrol on a motorcycle in the middle of the night in upstate NY where temperatures drop below freezing? WTF?
