It's actually not that funny to the educated who are aware that Donald Trump is a life-long liberal (and remains so to this day). It's funny how liberals think that anybody who runs for office with a little "R" behind their name is a conservative.

You're not even aware that Donald Trump was a huge supporter of Hitlery Clinton. He said she would make a "great" president and he donated tens of thousands of dollars to her campaign.

For all intents and purposes, the definition has changed, I'd say. Most Americans, even liberals, know that liberals propound a strong central authority and welfare state.

Only a few of the more regressive ones, such as a few on these boards, believe that that was a characteristic of our founding.

IMO, the difference lies in intelligence to a great degree. Intelligent people want to know WHY something is or is not liberal (or conservative). Those who are not intelligent simply divide the world into two, pick their tribe and conform to the group think.

Multiculturalism has replaced liberalism as the guiding principle of the left, and since people conflate left with liberal, they just assume multiculturalism is liberal. Since multiculturalism is all about preserving differences, however, and since the differences it seeks to preserve are invariably from societies LESS liberal than our own, it actually functions as a very conservative ideology in this respect.

The uneducated leftists of this forum are all uninterested in political theory, but if they knew even the first thing about it, they would understand that in the etymology of the word conservative as applied to politics, the "conserve" represents a desire to keep social order, social institutions and social roles. When they defend those who have not advanced in centuries or even millennium, they may be politically correct, but they are most certainly NOT liberal.
