Minneapolis cops again.

What is up with the police in Minneapolis? While this happened awhile ago it seems it is just now getting exposure.

Records from an internal investigation of a former Minneapolis police officer show that he was fired after he threatened a Somali American teenager during a 2015 traffic stop and told the teen that he was "proud" of "what happened in Blackhawk Down."

Police officials, who were mostly silent when ex-officer Roderic Weber was fired nearly five years ago, said in a brief statement released through a spokesman that it stands by its decision to fire Weber, which was ultimately upheld by an arbitrator. But the department declined further comment on the case, including questions about discipline of the other officers present.

The revelations, which were first reported by the Sahan Journal, come at a particularly sensitive time for the Minneapolis Police Department, which has been forced to confront its long history of racism as it works to strengthen public trust following the killing of George Floyd last May.

I can’t read the article, so I’m going off of what’s here.
So the guy made a comment about black hawk down. Ok.
Unprofessional? Sure.
In poor taste? Ok.
Racist? Why exactly? Seems the comment had to do with Somalia, not “black peepuw”.
Why must every single thing be about race?
And since when does this cop, or a few cops around the country translate to “the cops”?

How many cops gets in trouble for racism? Let’s say say it’s 10%. So woth that 10% you have now said “the cops”. What if we used that same mentality with black folks? It’s what, 1/3rd of black men have a criminal record? So 33% of black men have a criminal record.... by your logic I guess we can just call all blacks criminals.

I didn't say "The cops". I said Minneapolis cops. They've been in the news over and over for their racism. It's noted how none of the other officers addressed what this guy said so yes, that condemns them all.

.....there is no problem with the police--we've been over this many times....the problem is blacks committing crimes at HIGH rates

There is no indication anyone here committed a crime. All were released. The only problem here was the officers racism. In this case it was actually addressed.
Police are allowed to be provocative & lie to suspects to evoke a confession. The US Constitution affords us the freedom of speech.

But I gotta say... you are ok with someone getting fired over a black hawk down comment? Really?

Yes. It means that anytime he has to go to court to testify against a minority this statement will be used against him to show a bias. Police officers have to be smarter than that. Those who are not need to find work elsewhere.

Actually, it is often NOT a matter of racism, but it IS a case of a cop being AFRAID when dealing with certain young gentlemen.

Cops know from their own experience and that of colleagues that certain young gentlemen are often uncooperative, to say the least, and often have firearms.

I do agree with liberals, though: Maybe one should find another profession if one is afraid (understandably) of some of the people one has to deal with.

I don't understand this line of thinking. Why is it "liberal" to believe that someone who is afraid of people who look different than they do shouldn't be a cop? Shouldn't that just be common sense?

It’s not fear of looking different.
It’s fear of THE FACT that certain people are uncooperative and violent, and will then play the victim/race card while others lap it up.

It's just an excuse to dismantle the rule of law.

There is zero evidence of anyone being violent here. You are a proponent of being guilty until you prove yourself innocent. Something else not supported in court.
