I've never heard one. That said, when I was a kid, a person with a tattoo was most likely had either been in the military or in prison.

For lack of a better word, I find it "Funny" when a woman wearing a formal dress has such a tattoo showing.

When i was at a grocery store there were some mexicans parked next to me all ganged out with Raider stuff and tattoos top to bottom and leaned out the window and said, " I bet you guys are all Packer fans." Actually they laughed and thought it was pretty funny.

Why?

Maybe it's me, but tattoos of snakes, dragons, and devils seem to clash the formal wear and the formality of the events that people wear formal wear to.

Same reason people do all sorts of things, they like them.

I have one, got it in 1990, am getting my second next month.

My current tattoo can only be seen if I am not wearing a shirt, so it is covered 99% of the time I am in public...so clearly not for attention

Perhaps not for tattoos that stay hidden...perhaps. Then, maybe you are seeking attention only from certain people or a certain person that sees you without a shirt.

There are probably many varied reasons why people get tattoos. I suspect attention is one of the most common reasons, but no one reason will be universal for everyone. Many that get tattoos for the reason of seeking attention probably will not admit it.

My daughter has about a dozen, they all have a meaning to her about parts of her life.

My new one will be on my forearm so it will be visible most of the time. It is to represent the next chapter of my life.
