Mike Johnson wants a commission to study cuts in SS and Medicare.

Magic Mike doesn't need to do anything to get a budget cut for the wealthy. That is NOT his plan.
SS will be insolvent in 2034, and Medicare will be insolvent in 2026
SS recipients would still get 77% of promised benefits, money in equals money out.
Here's a look at the Medicare problem.

I hope Mike saves BOTH SS & Medicare.
Raising the cap, and ages for younger worker extends SS
Raising the Medicare Tax extends it.

Yup, I am sure the MAGA repubs are seeing the possibility of another tax cut for the wealthy down the road. Someone has to pay for it....such as SS and Medicare recipients.
They'll spend 5 million on a useless study, announce the findings at the start of the '26 election cycle and proclaim that there will be no changes.

The Swamp be The Swamp

But in order to strengthen the SS and Medicare system, there will be a need for a tax cut to corporations and the 3%ers which will trickle down to bolsters the coffers of these programs...which of course is an old deflated lie from the Reagan days.

And the deficit and repub lies just keep growing.

Viva Mafia Boss?
Viva Trump who didn't do away with Medicare and Social Security while in office, and did indeed put money back in the pockets of the middle class. Affordable food, gas, heating, low unemployment, high GDP, no taxing us to death to give away to the Ukraine Nazi, no billions of dollars to Iran. Energy independence was great. So was low interest rates. Middle class buying homes.
Viva Trump. Let's let him do all of that again:

Filers who earned $50,000 to $100,000 received a tax break of about 15 percent to 17 percent, and those earning $100,000 to $500,000 in adjusted gross income saw their personal income taxes cut by around 11 percent to 13 percent.

By comparison, no income group with an AGI of at least $500,000 received an average tax cut exceeding 9 percent, and the average tax cut for brackets starting at $1 million was less than 6 percent.

That means most middle-income and working-class earners enjoyed a tax cut that was at least double the size of tax cuts received by households earning $1 million or more.

Studying the problem isn’t the same as the jumped to conclusion that anything in Soc Sec or Medicare is going to be cut. Certainly not for current recipients.

Alarmism over a proposal to engage in even the study amounts to a denial that a problem exists.

News flash: a huge problem does exist.

Poor whiny jimboliar.
You should get a job and actually start taking care of yourself.

Democrats are pissed that Trump's tax cuts gave the middle class a monetary boost. They'd love to take those tax breaks away and get their shithooks on that extra money. But they're afraid people would notice how they're getting robbed by liberals and retaliate in the voting booth. MAGA.

I think both the Turtle and Slo Joe want to hang the no aid to Israel burning tire around his neck first, for awhile anyway.

The Turtle and Slo Joe actually did a debt deal with soc sec involved back when Obama was potus, but the freedom caucus stymied their hopes for a "grand bargain."

As the 1946 to 1964 generation retires it will be the hugest number of people collecting social security. The 1980's changes which Progs played a huge roll in with old Tip O'Neill and Claude Pepper pushing age increases and massive tax increases in the program was supposed to last until the early 2070's easily. They lied again. Joe was around. He was on his plagiarizing tour of course and was pro hetero marriage before he went to supporting gay marriage and pedophile marriage coming soon. After that if Joe is alive, he will support bestiality marriage. I digress. All talk of private side social accounts was strangled more than George Floyd with a jackboot on his neck. There was actually an idea of one per cent of the tax or so going into private accounts. Imagine if we did that. So now changes must be made, and Progs will of course spew that four hundred quadrillion people will die because of Republicans. The truth is they will be involved in modest changes if they occur. After the boomers start dying off the social security system will get stronger as Generation X behind them is half the size. Republicans need to make sure that any changes realize that. Progs though of course will not and make those changes permanent as it will be free money for more agendas. However, that is decades in the future and politicians think for now.

Certainly not you even though along with your SNAP bennies I am sure your SS income is solid.
And jimboliar, guess which party makes up the vast majority of "the wealthy"???
The majority of people receiving SNAP benefits are working poor.

Eventually this program will run out of money. There are less wage earners paying into it now.

Nope. Worst case if SS isn't "fixed" recipients would get 77% of promised benefits.

SS would pay out only what it collects in.

Fixing SS is easy. Raise the ages a year or two, and raise the cap, SS would be fixed.

The budget of all spending programs including entitlements should be cut equally across the board

Singling out SS or Defense only is not going yo fly
