In Texas, there are places where they have built a wall, but because of the way the border follows the Rio Grande, it is twisty and tough to follow, and in many cases, US citizens have half their land on the American side of the wall, and the other half of their land on the Mexican side of the wall, even though the border is several hundred yards to the south.

They couldn't follow the contours of the border, and some people had their land cut in half. One segment of a documentary showed where a woman had to actually open a gate to walk through to where she had pasture.

And...............she had to lock the gate going and coming.
