Mexican Navy Ship Just Crashed Into The Brooklyn Bridge!!

Yeah. Just like that other mess in Minnesota when they rammed that bridge. LOL
Engine failure....yet the engine supplies power for propulsion and the lights.

When I was in the Navy.....every engine failure we ever had was always followed by a blackout of our lights.
Only thing we had was safety lights on batteries.
But for some reason the props were still churning in this "accident".

It's pretty clear they did it on purpose. They were hoping to close the bridge for a few years.
Minnesota? That was Baltimore you moron!

What was your ships propulsion plant because electrical is separate from propulsion on Navy ships and they also have emergency generators. You must have been on the Ark!

If tide current is that strong they should start having sail ships leave when tide is going out. Granted they was using a motor in leaving but at that current it was going as fast as it could. Likely that was what caused it to break. We have a large cargo plane down here that can only leave in the morning when it is cool so can take off.

The east river can have multiple currents running at various locations in both the vertical and horizontal axes, and those currents can be very very strong. The River really isn't a river, just a tidal estuary between the LI Sound and NY harbor with added imputs from the Hudson River estuary via the Harlem River and the Bronx Kill.

If they had an Engine failure the Tug looks like it was trying to catch the ship before it hit the bridge, but didn't have the time to do it.

It was weird though I offered my prayers but it didnt save I edited it to reflect this.

I'm not an insensitive prick, but indeed, when people decide to do this they should be held accountable for the harm they caused. People have to be smarter than this as if they aren't people lose their lives following idiots.
You know this ship is from the Mexican "navy". Does Mexico have a navy? No. of course not. They have a ceremonial yacht parade, like Newport Beach does.

That's what they get for using the Metric system to measure height.
Americans use the metric system, they use 9 mm's in school.

There are two systems, metric and imperial. Outside of the US, most use both, in the US they struggle.

Imperial is so yesterday, antiquated. Why don't yanks use Dollars Shillings Cents? Metric is based on base 10. You would have thought that even yanks could manage that.

You could go to Newport Beach today and freeze and probably break/twist your ankle at the shoreline, too.

We use both.
I have tool sets for both.
But in construction, Standard as we call it is king and always will be.
Fractions are easier for layout and an 8ft sheet works for 12, 16, 19 1/4 and 24" inch joist layouts, making it far more useful to divide materials.
All lumber from Canada is sold in standard because of American construction standards.
All construction codes are standard here.

That will never go metric.

Both types of measures have their uses.

Oh, we can. We just choose not to. The metric system is simply too boring.

Right, it's completely boring to have something that is easy to understand because it's in measures of 10.

It's so much better to figure out how many ounces in a pint or inches in a yard.

Each system is best suited for different purposes. For small measurements, mm work great for small things, but kilometers are just not big enough for distance. For construction, the medium distances are best measured in feet rather than meters.

For liquids ml works great for soft drinks and medicines, but liters aren't big enough for gasoline, milk jugs, and larger measures.

For weights, mg is great for medicines, but kilos are too big for measuring body weight unless you want to say you weigh less than 100 kg. What is odd is when you get ton and metric ton to be almost the same, both being 2,000 to 2,204.62 pounds respectively.

Yeah, it is. Excercising the brain is important. The metric system is for simpletons.

Hard to assail the logic. I advocated for the Metric System on another thread.

But here's why we "Yanks" didn't adopt the Metric System when Jimmy carter (a U.S president in the late seventies) tried to make the switch:

1) It's associated with Europe. Americans were exposed to the metric system when our soldiers were in Europe trying to keep Europeans from wiping each other out completely. Signs reading "Auschwitz 250 km" became very memorable when that location was finally reached. Nor would we be impressed with signs reading "Gulag 3800 km."

Europe should try being more like America, certainly not vice-versa.

2) It's associated with Democrats. Anything Democrats do is automatically suspect. It's like the stopped clock. At 3:15 guy happens to look at a clock stopped on 3:15, he's not going to think, 'Hey, it's 3:15.' He'll think 'Piece of shit always says that.' That's what we think when we hear Democrats telling us they have a new way to do things better.

3) Big changes brought about by government always have an ulterior motive. It was during the supposed "gas shortage" that Carter tried to get us to make the switch. Many thought it would lead to rises in the price of gasoline (and other commodities) that the corporations and the govenrment would try to hide behind the confusion of switching to liters and grams.

It would take a dictatorship, or an authoritarian administrative state for force such a change on Americans.

An 8b4 sheetwood like ply, MDF etc.. is 2440x1220. Plasterboard etc.. comes 2400x1200 for 400mm and 600mm stud centres.

Our tape measures have both metric and imperial on.
