German Merkel´s warped view on Aleppo makes one´s hair to stand on end and her conclusion is just as crazed has her view.
Merkel blames Russia and Syria for the escalation of the conflict in Aleppo although the terrorists occupying the eastern neighborhoods are the cause of the conflict. While not specifying the side that carries out "brutal force" against civilians according to her, this force is why ceasefire talks must be resumed to implement another 7 day ceasefire. In reality, the terrorists did not take part in the ceasefire, there is not even any official statement regarding the ceasefire, except for one group that rejected the ceasefire. Mysterious "moderate rebels" did not distance themselves from al-Qaeda and the terrorists did not lay down their arms but reinforced their forces and stroke the army troops and civilians more than 300 times. The ongoing presence of terrorists in eastern Aleppo renders the continuation of the war inevitable, no matter how many pseudo-ceasefires the pro-government side would agree to.
In the last two years, when the government forces were on the verge to cut off eastern Aleppo two times, terrorist invasions in the region and elsewhere prevented the siege. This time, one of the war´s largest offensives took place in Aleppo and the Western politicians did not call for ceasefires. Terrorists gathered from all of the places they control and attempted to break the siege in the Ramush district of Aleppo. Thanks in large parts to the aircover and the brilliant strategy, thousands of terrorists were killed and the siege defended. Syrian forces and their allies are now attacking the besieged eastern neighborhoods and even prepare a powerful offensive against ISIS in the region. Both SDF and SAA look at al-Bab, which is threatened to be handed over from banned ISIS control to recognized ISIS control. And at least the SAA seems to be able to gather a decent force.
With the terrorist option fading away, the only choices are the humanitarian joker or a no-fly zone to be imposed on Aleppo, for that Kerry called with little echo. Here is where Merkel doubts a no-fly zone could be imposed on Aleppo. Russia deployed state of-the-art aircraft, air defense and systems of electronic warfare in Syria. The Russians already made clear that the humanitarian joker cannot be played endlessly and that there will be not another ceasefire in Aleppo.
The German chancellor should have a realistic view and a realistic goal. It is obvious what forces Syria and its allies are fighting and the goal should be to have this terrorists defanged and not to hamper the forces fighting them.
