McCain/Palin tone it down a notch or seven

I've read multiple sources that say McCain and Palin toned down the hate rhetoric and smear attacks on Obama at their stump speeches. It seems that except for the yahoos in the audience, it wasn't really playing well with voters. Odd how a real and serious concern over one's own financial well being focuses the mind well enough to see through the political bullshit.
