Having said that New Spain was around before the US. Not counting Florida, which was actual Spanish when acquired, a substantial portion of the US was Americanizationed from Mexico.

There's a breakdown of those entering here illegally. About 80% are from Mexico, Central and South America with Mexicans having the largest share of illegal aliens status.
