I appears it was the US government, i.e., the NIH, that voluntarily paused some gain of function research and then started it again without congressional or presidential mandate or approval.

Scientists claim they found the Higgs Boson 'god particle' but their proof was flimsy. However, the researchers were under massive pressure to produce something after so many hundreds of millions of dollars were spent looking for the particle.

Well, the problem with the Higgs is that it is rather hard to verify since it splits off into the four normal force carriers very early in the universe.

The same was true about neutrinos. When scientists abandoned Lord Kelvin's gravitational contraction theory of the source of the sun's energy, they adopted the nuclear fusion theory because gravitational contraction did not allow the sun more than 30 million years before burning out. The problem with the replacement nuclear fusion theory was that the measurements using that theory did not allow for the conservation of energy. To solve that problem the researchers invented the invisible particle they called the neutrino. The problem with the neutrino was that it could not be detected and so there was the 'neutrino problem' that lasted 70 years before researchers redefined their perimeters and declared that they had finally detected the neutrino with instruments. Never mind the results were and are questionable.

I'm satisfied that the neutrino has been sufficiently detected and confirmed, as well as having been scientifically very well explained as being both necessary to and integral to solar reactions. And the neutrino has the added benefit in that as a ghost particle, it gives researchers insights into where to look and how next in the efforts to detect dark matter.

The big bang theory lacks details and logic. The entire universe was supposedly contained in an extremely small but dense location before exploding across billions of miles in unoccupied space.

Well, I'll grant you there are many problems with the BBT, but boy! You sure are touching upon a rather frothy issue on a forum where I try my best to come here just for casual comedy and camaraderie to get AWAY from frothy conversations! But let's part some of the froth for just a second.

1. The whole basis upon which to hold the BBT true stems from the perceived doppler explanation of what every test seems to suggest that the universe is expanding, maybe even accelerating. So it just follows that if it is expanding today that it must have been smaller yesterday, so of course at some point, must have all erupted from some condensed central location!
2. This implies a point in space where the universe erupted from, yet the observational universe gives no such clue and appears that no matter where we'd go in space, that point always still appears central to the universe!
3. When the BB occurred, it was more than an eruption of matter and energy expanding out into an empty universe, but an expansion of space itself right along with it, which immediately boggle the human mind since we cannot conceive of a place (a space) where not even space exists for space to expand into! That calls into question the very nature of matter, time and space itself and only offers the logical mind a series of logically unsolvable contradictions, yet it still appears the only rational explanation and does very well at solving and explaining a number of things.

The BBT along with dark energy are both two theories created and formulated to fill a void in our understanding more as a convenience than as a discovery, so they cannot help but fit our lack of understanding too well since that is just what we created them for to do.
