Not to defend Trump, but this does not appear to be in anyway worse because of his staffing cuts. Reports I have read were that they had extra people on the area weather service staff that night because they knew there was a risk for severe weather in the area. My guess is that local officials were in July 4th festivities mode and just didn't pay much attention to preparing for weather when they were crunchtiming for parades and fireworks and such.

That make sense. Reduce funding and fire those that are responsible for giving warnings, and you won't get any warnings.
