"Action" means the way the gun is operated when it holds 1 or more cartridges.

"Actions" include the following:

- single action handgun

- double action handgun

- lever action rifle

- pump action shotgun

- bolt action rifle

- semi auto action rifle

- fully auto sub machine gun, carbine, rifle.

The evolution of actions began with single action type single shot muskets and pistols and then rifles.

So now the race is on to expand the definition to include WW1 assault weapons not just WW2 assault weapons or Viet Nam Era assault weapons.

Pump action rifles are not semiautomatic either and most pump action rifles are .22's.
