Those are good replies guys, and I do see some kids able to resist. But I know in my case had I been smoking pot at 14 I would not have been an honor student. And I believe most humans have an addictive personality that is no different than video games or texting or drugs. At a young age most don't have the discipline to say no or wait to the weekend or whatever. In college 45 years ago you could get a bag of Mexican and smoke all night long. And it was a big bag. The stuff I found in Oregon at a bonafide shop is like two or three toke material. The edibles are inconsistent and hard to gauge. My piece of candy didn't kick in for four hours and then it was very potent. Another one didn't kick in at all.and anyone that doesn't think about ten percent of the young pop is stoned there while they are working hasn't been around many drugs.
The concern isn't about every kid but if just 25 percent of kids become steady users it is a problem. They have a drink responsibly law, they need a toke responsibly law. And how long, they probably have it now, before they have a breathalyzer or a roadside blood test for drivers? I know just say no doesn't work for drugs or sex, but a common sense approach to creating peer pressure and an educational blitz about the proven neurological and brain damage effects of youth smoking is not too much to ask.
And let's be real. If your life is boring and dull, if you are always broke, if you are depressed, or if you are not fitting in or are getting hammered on Facebook you are going to look for an outlet. Old lady talks about heroin, here it is about meth. You can't find a job and you're living with your parents or just alone in general you are going to reach out for something that dulls the pain or makes you feel good. We can at least try for our kids not to make drugs the refuge of first choice.
