The one factor I think you are failing to consider is how much Tyranny is hated in Cuba. The Cuban people, both in Florida as well as on the Island itself, crave freedom for their people.

The idea that the Cuban people love despotism is just bullshit. And its the kind of bullshit we heard before about the Polish people, the Slovaks, Slovenes and Bulgarians among others.

When those people got the opportunity to become free, they took it.

When I was a young man, I would hear from liberal talking heads as to how much the Hungarians and East Germans loved being told what to do and that they would fight for communism just like Americans would fight for Freedom.

That was of course, proven to be bullshit.

And ditto with the Cubans, who want freedom.

Cubans may want freedom but they have good reason to fear the day communism falls. It is very likely that the South Florida Cuban exiles will attempt to seize political and economic control of the island. They collectively have the money and resources to do it. Will they be any better off under a bunch of ultra-conservatives with a lot of axes to grind?

The Communists in Cuba wouldn't be better off, but the people of Cuba certainly would be.

Most of the communists would end up like Emilio Rebenga.

But the whole island would enjoy an economic revival, particularly considering how close they are to the Tremendous State of Florida.

If you believe in self-determination at all you will understand the trepidation they have for the ultimate motives of the people poised to invade their island. In spite of everything they are fiercely proud of their country and no reason to welcome the descendants of the landlords and mafia bosses who had flee.

Accept that direct US involvement can only make things worse and hope for the best. Cubans will not accept any sort of regime change they do not effect for themselves.

What? Have you been to Cuba to take a poll lately? If their unrest poses a danger to the US mainland, intervention is required. That could easily devolve into a civil war if left unchecked. A civil war that could spill over to us. I hope Biden is competent enough to recognize threats to our national security enough to neutralize them.

The US overtly intervening in Cuba will result in practically the entire Island uniting behind the current government. As long they see it as their fight and their business they just might overturn the government but they never will if it seems the US might get involved. You don't have to understand a country that wants freedom but still hates America, you just have to accept it.
