Mao mart threatening to raise prices!

You can find random things. I live near Amish Country and there is all kinds of furniture there. Unfortunately it is only affordable to a few.

I'm doubting this.

People don't have the time to research for days and then travel hours.

Like I said....Walmart is convenient....I am not immune either.

So prices go up (inflation) and for what purpose?

If we look at mankind as a whole as one system forgetting about national boundaries forgetting about political lines.... The Civil engineering task set before us is truly immense. As an example let's use pumping mechanics.

You have a need for so many gallons of water per hour and so you fit a pump properly sized to supply it. You would think that if you needed twice as much you would only have to increase the pump by the same amount.... But that's not the case. The increase in the needed power is exponential. So where you needed a one horsepower pump originally you now need a four or five horsepower pump for a simple doubling of demand. I suspect we face the same situation on a global scale.

What we are seeing is actually the exponential increase in maintenance demand for the population. The point is we've never been where we are now and we hardly know what to expect. One thing is for damn sure It's not a linear increase.

Assembled from Chinese materials and fasteners...

Not always....but yeah. The fella I go to cuts his own wood, does his own shaping and assembling.... I do not know where he buys as fastners.

Basic economics have not changed. You promoted an idea and can't even explain why it's a good idea.

Of course it's a good idea...and no...I did explain it quite clearly. It's a matter of giving a shit about it.... Just that simple.

Amana used to be 100% but I don't think they are anymore.
Amana became a subsidiary of Maytag in the 1990s and then whirlpool in the early 2000s.

They still assemble Chinese made parts into whole products in Amana Iowa today as far as I know.

You're completely wrong.... Basic economics is just like the pump flow equation. The equation hasn't changed but the demand sure as hell has.
Of course if you had read the post through you would already know that.

Raising prices for consumers already strapped is a good idea?

There's been a definite downgrade in the quality of their product. There was a time you could buy Amana refrigerator and have it for 40 years with no problems..... Not so anymore.

Next time, actually have something to say before responding.

And how much does a couch cost?

They're going up anyway. Just because you don't see the numbers change on the sticker doesn't mean they're not more expensive.

And tariffs are going to fix this?

Sure, ultra low rates do that. I've condemned that but we are discussing how tariffs are supposed to help. You are advocating a double hit to costs.

As far as I know you can't by anything that lasts 40 years anymore.

My family is in the appliance business, though I haven't been a part of the company for decades I still get all the gossip and discussions. 3-5 years for a new Chinese made french door refrigerator that costs $3k or more.
