Manhattan prosecutors on Tuesday rebuffed President-elect Donald J. Trump’s request to dismiss his criminal conviction in the wake of his electoral victory, signaling instead their willingness to freeze the case while he holds office.

In a letter to the judge overseeing the case, prosecutors from the Manhattan district attorney’s office emphasized that a jury had already convicted Mr. Trump of falsifying records to cover up a sex scandal. Prosecutors and judges are often loath to unravel a jury’s verdict.

But acknowledging the unprecedented nature of the case — Mr. Trump would be the first felon to serve as president — the prosecutors raised the prospect of a four-year freeze so that he will not be sentenced for his crimes until he is out of office.

The judge, Juan M. Merchan, will decide in the coming weeks whether to freeze the case or dismiss it outright, a momentous ruling that will shape the outcome of the only one of Mr. Trump’s four criminal cases that made it to trial. Dismissing the case would further embolden Mr. Trump as he enters his second presidential term, solidifying an aura of invincibility around him.

It's a no win for Juan. Sentence trump and the howls of indignation will be heard on Mt. Everest. Dismiss the case and the lady holding the scales of justice will walk away in disgust.

Merchan, Engoron, James and Bragg should all be removed from their positions for dereliction of duty. Letitia. James and Bragg should be sued for baseless defamation.
Well, you know what they say about opinions. Yours is based on nothing other than those folks being involved in Dear Leader's prosecutions. Apparently because you think he's infallible.

If that's the case you should read this. https://www.justice.gov/storage/US_v_Trump_23_cr_257.pdf
It will change your mind.

They just will never learn... keep it up dems... we want the white house senate and house for 12 more years....

I have a suspicion that the next four years won't be very kind to Merchan, Engoron, James and Bragg.

I doubt if any of them will even be remembered four years from now.

I am guessing that most judges would see a 4 year delay in sentencing as a wee bit of a due process problem for the eventual appeal

I'm wondering if the Trump DOJ can file prosecutorial misconduct charges and take his pound of flesh for their Lawfare?

It's legal garbage with more chewing gum and twine than actual legal leverage. It's gone.

I wonder of judge matian has ever heard of due process or the constitutional right to a speedy trial.

I thunk the judge would be best off to flee the country before january 20th!

These charades are not going to be left hanging over his head by freezing during his presidency
Fuck these zealots—they are the ones going on trial and to jsil and not Trump
