He could have spoken broadly about the fact that some Muslims were harassed after 9/11 without lying about his aunt.

What bothers me most about that "speech" is how Mamdani pretended to cry over what his aunt went through...thousands of innocent New Yorker's died horrible deaths that day and he used that tragedy for a staged photo op! How big of a scum bag do you have to be to do something like that?

Manhattan, Brooklyn Queens and Staten Island are actually islands separated from the the mainland. The Bronx is the only part of NYC that is on the "mainland".
The Bronx is still a wasteland that was depicted in Fort Apache.
Although, it's been some time since I was in the city, illegal aliens may be living in those abandoned houses today.

Indeed, I lived there the bulk of my life until I retired and left.
One fifth of my family remains there and they too are preparing to leave, especially if Mamdani is elected.
BTW, Last time I was in NYC was December 2018 and I swore never to return...
