That's why these small towns relied on themselves for safety. It might be difficult for someone in New York to get to Tule Lake California. The location poses no problem to those in proximity to Tule Lake.

In 1945! Why, pshaw, y'all we done got cars n planes n stuff. Dey young uns even got bicycles and contraptions called motorcycles.
These camps were not well known to the public, they were secured by guards and they were so remote that people didn’t have the time, money or resources to get to remote spots just to hassle people outside a camp.

The story doesn’t make sense, in the 40’s most everyone was trying to survive and were all in on the war effort, they didn’t have the time or resources to drive hours away to protest.
