That's why these small towns relied on themselves for safety. It might be difficult for someone in New York to get to Tule Lake California. The location poses no problem to those in proximity to Tule Lake.Yeah, and fuel was rationed, and hopping in the family sedan for a 350 mile trip, on mostly dirt roads was a real treat.
Remember too, there were no interstates, there were only two cross country highways back then as well. Both two lane except for towns where they became 4 lanes wide.
