It's not complicated. Greenland occupies a strategic arctic position, it is the site of a US airbase and a very important early warning radar installation. Securing that over the long term is in our interest.What would the American people actually be getting from this deal to send our tax dollars to Greenland?
The island is rich in rare earth elements that we are currently sourcing from China, so having a stable source that is not dependent on China is a benefit to the US.
We already send our tax dollars to Greenland. If Greenland was a US protectorate, we might get something back- but in any event we would have stable supply of those resources and the confidence of knowing we aren't going to be booted off the island, which would put a big hole in our national defense.
