Maybe, but doomed is not the best word. All around the world people are saying the US is doomed. They're also saying Europe is doomed. Is that true? China today has a shaky economy but they are so far ahead of where they were just a few decades ago when people said China is doomed. Now it has a very robust infrastructure and is better prepared for the future and has a role in shaping the future. OTOH, America really hasn't invested much in its infrastructure and instead invested so much money abroad that really had a bad ROI, and much of it was in China. Now its financial system is one Lehman Moment away from collapse, and China can cause that collapse if it wants. Trump knows he has to be very careful with China.

What I have been hearing is the opposite of that. We have a well developed and relatively balanced society and economy.

I think he makes a lot of good points, but I wouldn't bank on China just failing and going away. They still have a lot of room for growth and the economic motors to achieve it. I also wouldn't bank on the US being the world hegemon for much longer as it also has some extremely serious economic issues, and a population that is strung out on excessive debt and there are big bubbles in the financial sector. The US is still one Lehman Moment away from collapse itself. Trump knows this and is trying to get the US back on the right track where it isn't so utterly dependent on financialization and trade with a country that hates America.

China is doomed. In relatively short order. Their demographics are terrible and they have built an economic/political system that is dependent on massive trade surplues with the US.

First of all, the 50s were awful, and a combination of US colonial imperialism combined with Hover's fascism.

Best case scenario, is still just giving them a slightly softer landing.
