Yes! One of my favorites.
My sister-in-law is from Bamberg. Her parents ran a small grocery store that included a bakery.
She learned how to make this cake from her mother, and makes it every Christmas since the 1990s here.
Essentially Black Forest Cake... but the cherries are the star.

No. Never heard "Lyoner Weck" and also never heard "Rosinenschneck" only "Rosinenschnecke". Which region from Germany is this?

Which region of South Germany? Alemanic? Or in France? Elsass? ... It's Hesse, isn't it? "Weck" not "Wegg-" without ending -e, -en, -a or -le, -li, -la. "Weggla" is at home in Frankonia. Normally "Semmel" in the South of Germany and Austria. "Brötchen" in Brandenburg, Berlin.
