When I got here, it was my worst nightmare. We reached the other side and we walked a bit until a man from customs patrol saw us. When they took us to the detention center, they took everything we had with us and threw it away in the trash. We had to wait in a big room – it was like a basketball stadium. We were all together – women and men – it was like a big box. We had to lie on the floor a whole day.

The next day we were then taken to another room with air-conditioning. They wouldn't let us sleep. They would constantly wake us up at all times. They would see I was pregnant and they would tell me that even if my baby was born here in this country I was still going to be deported.

Before I crossed the border I was eating well. But in that detention center I didn't eat because the food was not good. I wasn't asking for any luxuries but being pregnant I felt it just wasn't appropriate food for me.

I would cry because it was painful to see my children in a place like that. It was horrible. They could have made it a little better at least for the kids. They could have given us beds at least. Not for the adults but for the children. It would have made a difference to have had a place where they could have played, be happy and not be bored. They wouldn't have cried as much.

One night while I was sleeping on the floor, I woke up with all my body aching. My belly ached too. I wasn't going to tell them but I couldn't help it – so they took me with my two children to a hospital. The doctor told me I was going into labor. I wanted my children to stay there with me but it wasn't possible so they took them back to the detention center to the cell where we were. They spent the night there alone with the other people in the cell while I was in the hospital.

My baby was one month premature but the doctor said she was ok. The doctor said she didn't understand why my baby was born early, but I think it was because I had been sleeping on the floor, not eating well and not drinking water. I was in the hospital 2 days and then I was taken back to the detention center with my 2-day-old baby and had to go back to sleeping on the floor. I thought it was going to be different but it wasn't.

UK let the infants stay 9 mos with their mother. They don't however hold a child responsible for a crime till age ten and in jail.
Every country has children offenders and many allow infants to stay with the mother in jail at least for a few months.
Just a few years ago the execution of children was practices in several countries. Woman in Sudan was jailed with her children while waiting execution for being a christian. With pressure she was just released recently.
