Great Britain was a great commercial and colonial power before it became obsessed with Germany's industrial potential. It may have won two world wars, but it lost its empire in the process.

After 1812 we should have gone over there and wiped them off the map. Their money still influences our government under the table. I believe George Washington and other people in his cricle were more friendly with the British than the history books tell us.

I'm sure you are right. Most of my time there was spent in an area which has changed little in 150 years and the streets are still barely wide enough for a single lane of traffic. In fact the homes there, it is against the law to alter or modernize them in any way.

The country is rapidly becoming what it would have been if the Nazi's had won the war, heck even worse, at least the Nazi's wouldn't have put you in prison for "misgendering" someone.

I avoided London proper like the plague and flew in at the Gatwick airport south of London. I was not there as a tourist and had no interest in the sights of London nor the heavy traffic there. The airport was as close to London as I ever got. Besides, I could never get used to driving in the left lane and would be a menace to navigation.
I was mainly there really for the funeral of a friend, stayed at a hotel, and the funeral itself was remote far to the south and exclusive with the street closed and entrance by invitation only. Got to meet (or at least see) a lot of nice people there.

As in America, if you have enough money, you are afforded a certain amount of cushion from the vulgarities of ordinary society.

Certainly that article and your OP bear no relation to reality and I wonder if it stems from annoyance and even deep seated jealousy.
Namely, the stereotypical image of Americans over here is of overweight , unhealthy and loud mouthed people who are only known these days as bullying and badly schooled individuals with little available in culture and social graces .
