Actually the article says a "potential" 6 million kids. Not "estimated". Which I don't even know what that means. It sounds like someone pulled the biggest number they could imagine out of thin air. And then adding an extra 20% for padding.

If a kid had long Covid for six months, but it was two years ago, are they still counted among that 6 million? They aren't sick anymore mind you.
