List of Offices in the Federal Government - Yikes!

Why does the Federal Government need $40 TRILLION DOLLARS every 10 years just to govern the country?????????????????????

How much should it cost to run the worlds wealthiest economy with 330 million people for ten years?

Internal Revenue Service has a budget of TWELVE BILLION DOLLARS. Get that? $12,000,000,000 of your tax money comes right off the top just to pay a bunch of people to make sure you paid the right taxes.

It takes 2.4 million middle class taxpayers just to fund the IRS.
$12 billion to collect $4 trillion is a good deal

3/10 of a percent

We probably don't need the Army and the U.S. Army. Which ones would you eliminate?

Don't forget that these agencies were created by Congress in reaction to a need. There was no room full of bureaucrats thinking up ways to grow the gov't.
Then you don't know bureaucrats very well...Their very existence depends on the problems that they are tasked with working on never are solved, if they don't get worse....It's bad business for gubmint to solve a problem.
Sure you do
Name one, just ONE, bureaucracy that has EVER solved a problem....I defy you.

Lib please the entire process is largely computerized and automated. Why hasn't there been a massive layoff?

That wasn't a "problem" in the sort of epistemic sense....That was a goal to be reached, in an ongoing honey pot of bureaucracy.

Pretty weak attempt, even for you.

Not $40 trillion HELLO.

Costs money to run the worlds largest economy
We need to maintain a military that is larger than the next eight countries combined just to force our will on nations around the globe

We seemed to think it was a problem when it looked like the Soviets would beat us there

Like hell they have

Government provides :

infrastructure they profit off of
security
An educated workforce
A legal system
Protection of patents and intellectual property
A stable monetary system
Military Protection of overseas interests

Irrelevant to the overall point.

Even so, taking your assertion at face value, what happened to all the support staff after Apollo 17?...The mission control staff in Houston?....The assemblers at the VAB?...All the attendants in the white rooms?....All the engineers at Grumman, North American/Rockwell, et al.?...Their jobs vanished and they were out of work....Hell, Titusville and Cocoa Beach became near ghost towns until the shuttle program reached full stride.

Bottom line remains that the first mission of bureaucracy is to perpetuate and grow itself.....That is a fact that cannot be denied.

Nah. Government provides mountains of red tape and paperwork up the ass. They sure aren't there to help the businessman.

A business can run quite well without Government. They did so long before the giant Government we have right now came to be.

And yet we need MOAR money for MOAR programs.

Shut down the ones no longer needed, consolidate where we can, see what money we saved and use it to fund relevant projects we have for today.

While I do agree we need to shrink and consolidate, the list is highly misleading. Take for example more than 30 times on this list are "Commands" within the DOD. They are not really separate offices or agencies.
Didn’t spend time in the Pentagon in your 20 years? Separate offices and chain of commands.

NASA didn’t build a thing. Never has.

Provide for the common defense and promote (not fund) the general welfare that should be the extent of the fed, all else falls to the states. This bloated, bureaucratic, nightmare monster we have as a government today is the exact opposite of what the Founders intended.
